I did a search on ipod interfaces, but I couldn't find any pictures of where people run the cord that connects to the ipod or where they have mounted the small interface box. Where have you ran the cord to be able to plug the ipod in? I've heard through the trash loop. Just looking for sanitary ideas.
Also, it appears that USA Spec is the interface recommended by Crutchfield. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for me.
I have the USA Spec in my 02. I have it to where I can have my iPod hooked up and my Sirius radio hooked up to it at the same time. It works well after you learn all the little quirks to it. I mounted it in the glove box because every once in a while you'll have to unplug it from the radio side and wait a few minutes to plug it back in before the radio recognizes that it's there. It sure beats dealing with FM transmitters. Read the book on it to fully understand how it operates, it's a bit confusing to describe it to people I've found, but it works like a 6 disk CD changer. For me Disk slots 1-4 is certain playlists in my iPod, disk 5 is random on my iPod, and 6 is a auxillary jack that my Sirius is plugged in.
USA Spec is probably the only one their vendors sell or got a anti-competition deal when crutchfield picked them up. When I get a newer Ipod, I'm getting a PIE interface.
I am going to run the cable into the pocket under the 4wd/BU switch panel. It will be accessible and out of the way. I had originally drilled a hole in the top of this pocket when I put a mobile phone kit in it for the PO.
This is good info. I have and have had FM transmitters in the past. With the one in my truck, I have to crank the volume on the radio just about to max before it is at a good volume to hear. The car came with an aux jack in it; what a difference! I should look into it once I can justify the cost to the CFO. Maybe it might happen to "break"...
Pod cast your briefings. That way everyone can review them at their leisure. Then they could provide the Ipod and the vehicle interface. Think of the possibilities, reviewing interview tapes, previous shift's out briefing, call outs. I'm sure there are even more reasons you could "justify" it.
HA! That's a good one, your highness (or is it your moderatorship?) I was actually referring to my wife. The truck is my personal one and my job has nothing to do with fire fighting.
ReAX, is there a specific reason you would go with the PIE over the USA Spec interface. Just curious. I am dumb when it comes to this stuff and just curious others opinions.
Back before I found out none of them supported my Ipod (or that my ipod is screwed up), PIE had the most features. PIE was supposed to give track titles and length on certain models, which I thought was a tipping point.
