Maybe chip problem?

Hi, sometimes my truck doesn't want to start, it will crank and crank. Some guys think there is something wrong with the chip. Or is the PCM not clean enough? I had this chip in for a month or so, and it just started doing this now. It doesn't do it every time i try to start it.

I'd check your battery cables and terminals. They can get corroded and wiggle loose sometimes. If a cable wiggles loose, than your truck is attempting to start on only one battery.

That'd be where I'd start.

Cables are tight, engine turns over like it should. Sometimes it cranks&cranks. Let off the starter, cycle the key again and it will start normal

Is the chip a DP? Is it in the No Start setting?

On the days it does not want to start, do you hear a buzzing sound come from behind the dash when you turn the key to the start position?

sometimes it will start with the chip in and sometimes it won't. 98% of the time it starts with the chip in.

Ok. So I gather, sometimes the truck does not want to start. So after attempting to start the truck, you pull the chip out, and the truck starts...

On the days the truck DOES start, does it take a few seconds of turning over to start it?

Also, does it only do this on cold starts, or all the time, even when warm?

How is your oil level in the HPOP? Low oil pressure could cause long cranking times. Remember the injectors fire off of oil pressure. Do you get smoke when cranking?

After attempting to start, I can cycle the key again, and the truck starts everytime then.

No on the days it does start it starts normal.

Yes even when engine is warm.

Example one day, Went to start truck, waiting for wait to start light to go off, turned key, engine cranked & cranked fast, but didn't start. Turn key off, turn key on again, waited for light to go off, truck started normal. Drove to city 70 miles. Shut truck off, went into store. 45mins later came out to truck, wait for light to go off, truck started normal. Went to the back of the store, shut truck off. Load up and strapped load down, got in truck waiting for light to go off, engine cranked&cranked fast, but didn't start. Turn key to off, turn on waited for light to go off, truck started normal
