My Friend has a 65 F-250, and having problems with the battery not charging up. When the truck is running and you pull the positive cable off the battery, it dies.
we drove the truck down to O'reillys and they tested it. The computers saays o start the truck and he did, and the computer kept saying to start the truck, so obviously, it's not showing up. We took the altinator off the truck and they tested it, it was good. The battery we used was out of his daily driver and it only showed 11 volts, so it lost some voltage just driving about 2 miles to the store.
I thought it might be a ground problem, so I clamped a jumper cable from the exhaust manifold and the other end to the frame, but that didn't change anything.
My only other thought is what I think is an ignition modual or something that is mounted on the right inner fender. It has four wires going to it, but it looks like maybe more should be there. Is this an ignition modual? Am I right about the wires? Can this be tested? Anything else can we check? Any help would be appreciated.
O'reillys should have know to test that. It is clear the the truck is running off the battery, and if the alt is charging, then the regulator is next in line.
i had the same issue in my 66 mustang. i burnt up a couple alternators before i figured out it was a faulty voltage regulator. should be able to reset it with a breaker style one that wont blow a fuse so easily.
The voltage regulator was the problem. I had searched all the local auto store websites and found Bumper To Bumper was the cheapest. 11.00 And Auto Zone the next cheapest at 16.00. Just wanted to let you guys know and say thanks again.
