for a 95 you will need to pull the number 6 pin on the gray plug and put it into number 5 on the black same with a 94

If your cluster has a date of Sept 95 it should be a 96 model. Most manufacturers switch over to the next model year in August after the summer shutdown so the dealers have a supply of trucks in October which is traditionally the start of the model year. There should be a part number that will confirm the model year but its probably a 96.

Like rikard said you have a 96 cluster out of the Bronco so this whole thread will help someone else but for you just put the 96 Bronco cluster in.

The original poster should look to see if his 350 had an airbag and anti locks on original gauges.
Does your original gauges have anti lock and airbag light?

The heavier rigs (250HD and 350) were exempt from some of the "safety" features mandated on passenger vehicles.

I know of a 1997 HD 250 (old body style) that has the 92-93 gauge cluster from factory.
It is also OBD1.
Seems that they were just using up left over parts.

Verify what you have!!

my 96 f350 has the low fluid/parking brake light on the bottom left of the cluster. above that is the ABS light (truck has rear ABS), and above that is the check engine light. the truck does not have an airbag. does that mean i do not have the light in my cluster? or is the light there, but not functional? if i use this tach'ed cluster from the 96 bronco that does have an air bag, will that be a problem for me? i doubt it would, but figured i'll ask since it was brought up.

You'll have no problem. Your truck probably has the wiring for Airbags, but without the module, the wiring will be dead.

Try it out and report the results back here to help others.

I has been suggested here before that '96 was stand alone because of OBDII. I don't know if that is accurate.
After looking at diagrams above, it does look like the only difference between 94-95 and 96 is pin #5

linckeil,
Is your F350 OBDI or OBDII?

Sportruk,
Thanks for wiring diagrams.

my 96 F350 is OBDI. No plug under the dash like you find with OBDII. my OBDI plug is under the hood on the driver side wheel well near the firewall.

From what i understand, 1996 was a mix between OBDI and OBD II. Trucks under 8600 GVW were OBD II, trucks 8600 GVW and over are OBDI. this is what i've heard anyway - not 100% sure on this....

so the 96 bronco i am getting the tach'ed cluster from is OBDII (i think), and my truck is OBDI. will this OBDII cluster swap into an OBDI truck effect any functions of the cluster? does an OBDII cluster have different idiot lights than an OBDI cluster?

This is true.

There are no differences between the OBD II and the OBD I clusters in the 1996 trucks.

So I picked up the cluster last night. The lens and housing has an F2 part number (as I would expect). The rear of the cluster has a F5 part number stamped on the foil. The sticker has a date of Sept 1995.

There are 6 lights on the face of the gauge: check engine, ABS, brake(!)(P), seat belt, high beam, and battery.

There are 6 more lights that illuminate below the gauges through the bezel: left turn, theft, airbag, low range, 4x4, and right turn.

I checked the non-tach cluster currently in my ’96 and it has all of these lights as well. The theft and airbag lights on my truck are non functional as I do not have an anti theft system or an airbag.

I then checked my 1996 F series owners manual and it states my truck has all of the above mentioned lights, except it makes no mention of the theft light. The block on the dash where the theft light is, is left blank in the manual. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the theft light was not on a 1996 cluster, but that it was on a 1995 cluster. This is consistent with the manual, but not consistent with my current gauge cluster, or the gauge cluster I just picked up. Perhaps the theft light and lens was left in place from the 1995 model year, but was non functional on all 1996 models? Any thoughts on this?

And do you think this is a 1996 cluster I picked up even though it has an F5 part number stamped on the rear foil? Does the (!) and (P) after the brake warning light indicate the light is for both the parking brake and low fluid level? From what I understand, the low fluid level warning is specific to a 1996 cluster only. A 1995 cluster and earlier only indicated when the parking brake was on. Does than mean 1995 and earlier clusters only had the (P) after the light and not the (!)?

the easiest way to know if this is going to work in your truck is going to be to plug it in and try. instructions for install incase you need them..

grab the **** for the lights pull on it till the lights turn on then pull a little more and it should pop off.

next grap a flat head screw driver or similar and insert between dash and gauge bezel should only take slight pressure and the clips should pop out. finish removing bezel and unhook any wires attached.

remove the screws holding the guage set in (cant remember how many exacly) you only need to remove the ones that are on the black part the ones in the clear plastic dont need to be removed

then pull guage twards you (may need to drop sterring wheel to lowest position) after guages are out far enough un hook the two connectors on the back.

plug in new set and slide into position there is no need to reassembe every thing at this point.

start truck and look at guages main to to look at are the tac and voltage. if truck dosnt die after 10-20 minutes your good. if truck does die reinstall old guage and jump it off becasue your battery is dead.
