Side gears/Spider's missing teeth
Group
a have a dana 60 rear that has 4.10's, and the side gears or spider gears have some teeth missing. Can i swap some gears from another
dana 60 into it that has 3.73's in it..I know the ring and pinion
is what makes up gear ratio..so are the side/spider gears all the
same??no mater what ratio?

Side gears/Spider's missing teeth
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Mar-02 AT 10:14 PM (EST)]You can swap the side gears/spider gears as long as:
1.) The donor axle is the same type of differential (i.e. open, trac-loc, powerlok)
2.) The axle shaft spline count of the donor axle is the same. A '69 Ford Dana 60 rear axle should be 16 spline. Later Ford Dana 60 rear axles (after mid 70's) are usually 30 spline.
You are correct in that axle ratio is irrelevant.

Side gears/Spider's missing teeth
WOOO!!!!!!!!!!
A word of caution about that !
first if the teeth are missing that rear needs to be totally taken apart and cleaned.those missing pieces will end up in your ring and pinon or
in the spider/side gears. you are never sure you get them all out unless
taken apart
use all new spider gears and new side gears, lock pin also or you'll have problems
to alow them to breakin their own new wear pattern.
Just My $300.00 dollar opinon!
Trust me I've rebuilt more rearends than I can remember!
