Hey all, anyone ever buy a truck from a state that does not require a title for pre '75 vehicles and title it in a state that does.I am considering a purchase from Alabama(does not title for pre'75) and will end up in Wisconsin that does title pre '75. I know this is a question for the DMV, but just wondered what red tape I can expect. thanks!
You'll probably need a bill of sale, and some legal registration document with the VIN on it, then chances are they will have the state patrol or sheriff do a VIN inspection. That's the way it's worked in most states I've been in.
I'm not asserting that the Feds should have any more control over our lives then they already do, but this is a great example of something that should be standardized across the country.
Coming from another guy from a state that gets rid of titles at ten years old-
I remember the hoops my father had to go through with the CT DMV (one of the worst in the country, IMO) trying to register HIS OWN truck from Maine. Luckily, the bank he had financed it through still had a copy of the title, so he was able to use that.
