I am putting a 302 into my 87 ranger and i had a few questions, first off, does anyone know what psi the small intank fuel pumps run on an 87, there is a larger inline pump for the fuel injection which i have removed, but when i looked inside the tank there is a little one on the end of the pickup, basically what i am asking is if that would provide the 8 psi i need for my carb, and another thing is the truck was fuel injected, i have removed the wiring harness that goes into the computer. i hooked a battery up to it and i am not getting any power to the plug that went into the larger inline fuel pump. is there something in the fi wiring harness that needs to be hooked up to get power to the pump or what? also i am using an aod (non-elec) and a motorcraft 2100 carb, how would i hook up the tv cable on such an arrangement any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks
im assuming you have an aod trans if your reffering to a tv cable? lokar sells the tv cable for carb applications, but you might be able to buy it from an auto store if you can find the correct application.
concerning the fuel pump thats in the tank, no, you most likely cant use that with a carb. efi pumps put out a totally different pressure (typically between 30-60psi) whereas a carb usually requires between 5-15 psi. you would only blow out the carb using that fuel pump.
i know that a fuel pump on a fi puts out way more psi, my truck has two, a small one that is intank and then there is a larger one outside the tank that i assume is the high pressure one, i just want to know what the intank pumps pressure is
you might look up in the haynes manual for that rig. for a full size bronco running efi the pumps create 39psi pressure at the rail after the FPR. you may get away with figuring out which pump is the low pressure pump and keeping that and removing the hi pressure pump.
you installing a 2" body lift to make that motor fit right.
