Lucas

Any takes on the Lucas oil/fuel additives? I cuurently run oil add. at oil changes and was thinking fuel also. Have been using DK (silver bottle) almost every fill up. Any thoughts or comments?

I don't add anything to the oil, because our injectors fire based on oil under extremely high pressure. Oil additive + high pressure = ?

I would recommend that you use a good 15W-40 SYNTHETIC motor oil. Synthetic oil eliminates two things: oil "coking" on the turbo/compressor bearing and compressor blades and actuator and fuel injector "stiction". Both are caused when dino oil breaks down and burns due to very high oil temps. The resulting residue then coats close tolerance components like injector plungers and bearing races. This, over time, will cause turbo bearings to fail, turbo compressor blades to stick and fuel injectors to fail. Synthetic oil will not burn.

IMHO a lot of people on this site that have had turbo or injector issues at some time used dino oil under high heat high load conditions. Even switching to synthetic after dino will not cure the coking and stiction damage after it happens. It will require component disassembly and cleaning with a very strong solvent or brass wheel or total component replacement. Just my .02!

I recently began running 2-stroke TCW-3 in my tank at 200:1 fuel to oil ratio, and it noticeably quiets down the injectors.

I'll be honest with you, I will never put lucas in my oil or fuel. I had brand new bottle of it freeze on me once at not such cold temps. Right then and there I decided "never in my truck". I considered myself lucky that I still hadn't dumped it in the crank case.

DSMMH,

The coking of the turbo that you speak of....is this due to the CCV flowing into the turbo?

I rerouted it a while back and was wondering if this is a problem regardless of CCV into the turbo or not.

Exactly....it thickens the oil in a sense and causes it to foam....worse yet in the winter time. Did it once in my PSD, NEVER again!

My truck ran like crap and it took about 2 oil changes to get it out my truck's engine.

Thanks for the info, I am currently in the process of installing a Gillett Diesel EGR delete kit. I have read as many threads as I could take in regards to the Lucas question and have seemed to screwed myself since I have run it for the past 40k (every 3k oil change) and have also been using DK in the tank alot! I am hoping it didn't damage too much and to get another 100K out of the truck without changing the motor. I am interested in the 2 stroke info if anyone has it. Type, name where to get it etc.... Thanks again for the info!!

Wal-Mart 2 cycle Outboard TCW-3 oil in the blue jug in the automotive section or white jug in the marine section. Same oil.

Add 1oz of oil per gallon of fuel.

I agree with everything you said, just wanted to clear up one thing- synthetic 5-40 is what you want, I don't think 15-40 comes in syn that I know of.

Royal Purple is the only oil that I know of that comes in a synthetic 15W40 diesel oil (CI4+ and/or CJ4)
