I looked under my EX and I see a grommet on bell housing, I removed it and under there I see a small bolt, is that where I would drain the tranny fluid? Thanks!
I haven't seen mine yet but there is only one in 360 degrees and they look like a bolt head. That must be it. Loosen it up with a pan below it in case you loosen to far and see if ATF comes out or just take it out when it's not hot and quickly put it back in. I rebuilt auto trans for many years but that was a long time ago. I think most of the plugs were 7/16"
I find myself envisioning the old cartoons where the character would unscrew a bolt on a tractor or something and the entire thing would fall apart into a pile.

I envision my tranny days when I would pull a plug and get a face full of hot smelly oil
So that wouldn't be some sort of adjusting bolt right?!
No. There is only one plug in there. It's not a bolt. The converter is like a big round donut filled with oil. About 60-70% of your trans oil is in there. It gets pumped in there and stays there. It has fins inside like a jet engine that hydraulicly connects the engine to the trans and allows it to idle and transmit power smoothly to the trans. Just put a pan there and take it out when it is not hot.
My manual says 17.7 quarts but that is completely dry. I think just the trans takes 6 quarts. If you overfill you will have to drain some. I would start with 14 and check it (won't hurt it.) Don't forget to drain the trans part also (pan). Some oil will stay in the lines and cooler.
Ok, I just finished changing the Tranny Fluid, it took bout 30-45mins, was even easier than changing the Engine Oil.
This Came Out: (about 6 and some)
This Went In: (6 1/4)
I'm gonna let things settle in the Dip Stick Tube and tomorrow gonna check the level but it seems to be changing smoother though it might be just my imagination.
I was gonna pay $160-$180 for someone else to change it but I spend a total of $42.
