75 F250 Starting Problem
I'm having a hell of a time getting my truck to start when it's cold. I have power, fuel and air, but it just won't start without the aid of a spray of quick start. Once it's running and up to temp, no problem, but after sitting for a couple of hours, I have to grab the quick start again. I have even tried plugging in the block heater at night, but get the same results. It'll turn over but won't fire. I think I have it down to either poor spark plugs, bad coil or worn out points.
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You sure you have points? in a '75 you should have electronic ignition, not points.

Yes it has points. It's a supercab, camper special, and I had the dist off a couple of days ago and cleaned all the contacts.

What about the choke? Does it work, is it adjusted?
What carb do you have?

The carb is a Holley 4160 (orig). It is possible that the metal spring in the choke is gone (again). I replaced it two years ago so it should be fine, but I'll check it this weekend.

I've found my truck won't stay started if the choke is closed all the way. It likes to have a fair sized initial gap.

You need to adjust the choke pull-off then. It's a vacuum that "pulls" the choke partially open as soon as the engine starts cranking.

I have a Holley 4160 with an electric choke, there's not really a mechanism to accomplish that.
