thanks for all your help and information.
You helped me with the in cab fuel thank thing.
Im still checking but with your help I know this.
My 78 was made 10/77 and is a f150 custom 4x4 short box.
The vin # matches from the door, to the sticker on the cab, and the frame. The original paint seams to be the same on all the cab and the doors. I also found the report you spoke of and may pay to get that report.
I looked at were the in cab tank was installed and it has the thredded holes in the floor to secure the tank, but were the neck comes out of the cab on the inside it does not look like a factory hole.
Question: is there a place on the cab were the vin was stamped?
I was thinking that the cab was swapped out too but if that is a fact who ever did the swap they did a great job to cover it up.
