Trying to find front leaf spring

Here's what "Parts guy" Bill had to say in a different section of the forum:

TAAA-5310-A .. Front Spring-8 leaf / Obsolete / Fits: 1953/56 F100.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

I looked in Dennis Carpenter's 1948/56 reproduction parts catalog...no dice, but someone prolly reproduces them.

Now that you know what they fit, I suggest you start a thread in the 1948/60 forum and ask if anyone knows.

This type leaf is used on a utility trailer I have had for some years that was made from the front pickup frame and a late 60's bed on top. Anyone know where I can get replacement leaf springs?

Tks,

Bob

If it will fit the front of a 53-56 Midfifty would have it. Detroit spring would be another as they make springs to order.

Thanks for the info. Midfifty does appear to have them. $250 a side. What type of a load was the 53-56 F100 designed to carry up front? I have a 5200# axle under these springs and sometimes carry a couple of tons of rock in the trailer. If I'm looking at spending $500 for new springs, maybe I should try to find some that will better take the load. This trailer was made with whatever was lying around so I doubt any real attention was paid to which springs to use, just what fit.

I'm not sure of the exact weight but they did carry the weight of y-block that was likely close 650 lbs plus the front sheet metal. You could always add more leafs or prehaps some air bags. You could always find another set of springs from something else and change the shackle brackets as it is only a trailer your talking about and that might be alot cheaper for you, just a thought.

If you still have the original and the eyes are good, I would call th elocal spring shop and see if they can respring it, or add leaves. On my 51 they only want $250 to bo both sides and that includes new bushings, clips, cnter bolts, etc.

Also, I would think those would be plentiful with so many folks putting on IFS front ends. Maybe Yo ucould put an add in th eswap meet parts needed and see if someone has a set.

I would PM BIGWIN and Walfords 56 - I'll bet both of them have some.

The long leafs on both sides have broken and are sproinging up in the air. I already had the stacks shuffled a few years back so I'm thinking now that it's time to suck it up and replace them. I'll look at the SWAP stuff. Might even have to weld new mounts and just go with HD trailer springs.

Tks,

Bob

Your right Julie, most darksiders probably have a pile of them laying around, I've got three sets myself but live to far from anyone that would be interested in them, lol

Ya

I'm sure they should be easier to get from someone here (or they will know who has a set) and much cheaper that $250 - for a trailer for crying out loud!

I'm having trouble navigating the site tonight for some reason....Bob where are you located?

Vegas Valley. S NV.

BTW. JC Whitney sells leaf springs but skips from model year 1952 to 1966. You guys probably know why, I sure don't.

I just removed mine from my 53. Email me at carnut122@aol.com and I'm sure we can work something out.
