So for a while my truck fan hasn't been kicking on while towing. So the last trip I lost some coolant.I have no idea where it came out.The bottle was dry and the whole top of the engine was dry. There was coolant all over the front axle though.I filled it back up and it hasn't leaked yet,2 weeks. It is showing the 0528 code.No CEL. So my mechanic buddy comes over and performs some tests and the fan is not responding.I assume I need a new fan clutch. My question is,do these things last long or are the troublesome? Is there a part # someone may be able to get me? thanks for reading.
Just wonder what he used to test the fan, Ford software can only force the fan to engage. The code is Fan Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal. Check the electrical connector going to the fan clutch located by the intake elbow area.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Wasn't to bad.you need to rermove the radiator. My mechanic buddy was kind enough to come over and lend a hand.I'm trying to remember, you may need a tool to hold the clutch to torque.Make sure you check the wire connector feeding the clutch. It could be seperated.
p0528 is a 99% of the time a fan clutch. not hard for me to do less then an hour. I assume you are asking because you have not done one before. I woudl say count on 3-4 hours.
Yea, the last time I did a clutch fan it was on a N/A 7.3 and all you had to do was take the shroud off. I just bought this truck, its an 05 with 130k on it. Its pulling 2 codes this and 0266. I am guessing #2 injector is done. It has an intermittent miss at idle but seems to be fine while driving.

When I changed mine, I didn't remove the radiator. Just removed the upper/lower shrouds, then slid the fan AND remaining plastic housing up and out. Having an extra hand to assist in lifting it up and out is helpful...
If you go to buy one, check out amazon. That is where I picked mine up for 1/2 of dealer pricing directly from Motorcraft.
