My speedometer has quit working, every once in a while it will pop up to 40 and stay there, or it'll work for a little while then nothing. When it quit before, I would come to a complete stop, push the clutch in, leave out in neutral, push clutch in again and it would be back working, not now. The odometer and tripometer are still working fine. Any ideas?
Okay I got the sensor from Napa today, installed still no speedometer, trip and odometer working fine. Is there anything on the clutch pedal that could cause this? My cruise doesn't work either, but never has since I owned it.
I apologize there is a switch on the clutch pedal that will give you the same symptoms that you are having. I missed the part about you having a 6 speed.
My CPP (clutch pedal position) switch gave me some issues, but it never affected the speedo. You can take the sensor off and look at the springs inside. There should be one long spring on each side. If it looks like 3 or 4 springs stacked on top of each other like mine did, then that could be your cruise control issue.
Was the old VSS dirty or anything look wrong when you pulled it out? I'd check your fuses first just to be on the safe side, then we'll see if we can find the ohm test so you can check the wiring at the plug on the VSS.
Another idea.... I read a post awhile back even changing out the vss sensor, the guy had to change the rear fluild.. apparently had metal shavings affecting the sensor..
Fuses all are good, clutch position sensor is good. I am thinking I'll flush the fluid in the rear again. I did flush it about a year ago. Any other ideas?
Depends on how hard you think it is to rebuild a rear end. There's not really much to go wrong with a tone ring, so I don't suspect you'll have to replace it, but since you'll have the back cover off, it's a good idea to look at it just to rule it out.
