The cdr valve in my truck went bad and started draining oil all over my intake, going with what some others said i ran a hose from the valve cover to a oil separator for an air compressor. this worked for a while but it quickly clogged and I am back to the same problem i started with, oil everywhere. I took the oil sep. off to see how much air was getting pushed out of the valve cover and was amazed at the volume coming out. I dont know if this engine has bad rings and is getting alot of blowby or if this is normal. I need help finding a way to keep this oil and oil vapor contained so the engine is not an oily mess.
Where the oil actually leaking from? Mine starting leaking oil all over and in the end it was just the gasket at the valve cover. The gasket was dried out and brittle. I used a glad hand rubber, from a tractor /trailer air line.

What you need is a breather pipe going from the engine to an empty bottle and then another pipe out of the bottle and going vertically down into the air stream under the truck. You can then empty the bottle from time to time. You can get the bottles on ebay and some parts stores.
No mods required really, just had to trim out the flappers on the particular rubber that I chose. The plain black rubber ones are best. I am a driver/operator so I had some in my toolbox. I live a hundred miles from the nearest parts outlet so I was kind of desperate when I took the cdr out one Sunday night to service it and search out the leak. The top of the existing gasket came out in pieces with the tube. Luckily the inside part stayed intact so I was able to stick my finger in the hole and got it out in one piece.
That is good to know, several people have been to Ford trying to get the CDR grommet.
Ford has it is discontinued/obsolete unless the dealer has one on the shelf.
Those dirt flappers may even be thick enough that you could leave them in there on a turbo model and it would seal since the turbo pedistal drain is smaller than the CDR tube is.
Interesting fonefiddy. I went to the Ford dealer to see what they had for cdr valves and whatnot. His system showed the cdr venting and draining oil back to the valley. My truck is plumbed to the left valve cover. The partsman figured that my '89 was modified for the aftermarket turbo, and the cdr does have an ac number on it. The valve cover is obviously stock and looks totally IH. I don't know much about these engines, except to say that I have driven lots of them in construction, drilling and logging applications and they are generally tough and dependable. That's why I bought one.
You get a new grommet with the valley pan for a stock NA setup.
My Fel Pro valley pan did not have the correct grommet for the turbo pedistal even though I ordered the valley pan for a 93 7.3 IDI turbo.
The turbo pedistal neck is much smaller than the CDR neck where it goes into the grommet.
With the CDR plumbed into the drivers side rocker cover it sounds like an ATS turbo, same as was used on the 93 and 94 IDI turbo motors.
To avoid the Power Stroke confusion in 94, ask to see a parts breakdown for a 93 7.3 IDI turbo motor.
