I have a 2004 Excursion with Cryo rotors and hawk pads on the front. At 50-40 mph when braking I get a BAD shake and shimmy, In the rear of the truck. Nothing in the wheel, just in the rear brakes. I had the problem last year and i changed the rotors and pads, problem solved for about 7000 miles. I didn't put cryo rotors/ hawk pads on rear, just cheap one. Turned them, shake still there. Money is a little tight now so I can't keep throwing parts on and not fix it. Do I need to have Cryos in the rear too? HELP!!
I did the same thing as you 2 weeks ago on the rear of my 2000 X, tryed to get by with only pads and rotors, didn't work, ended up puting on new calipers on the next day as my rt rear rotor got hot on my test run after the work was done so to avoid more problems and rotors again i just bit the bullet and got two new calipers and i also blead out the hole system. Now it works like new again. I got 170'000 out of the factory rear brakes and 130'000 out of the fronts, i also have "Power Slots" and Hawk's on the fount and OEM on the rear.
Good Luck!
What is the secret to removing the rear rotors? I need to remove my rears to have them resurfaced. I attempted one afternoon a few months ago and they did not budge. Were either of yours extremely difficult to remove, or am I missing something?
If you have a c-clamp big enough to go over the caliper you can compress it to retract the pistons and then it should come off. Make sure that you have enough rotor left after turing it, rotors are not that expensive, i got mine @ NAPA, also make sure you compare differant rotors there is a lot of differance's in them, cheap is not always the answer if you plan on keeping the vehicle, just m2cw. If you live in a state that has snow and uses salt or chemicals on the road look at the cooling finns between the two brake surfaces before you turn them, mine did not have much space between the finns for cooling from rust!
Let us know how it goes.

Uh...no way you can compress the pistons with the caliper still attached.

Most of the time the rear calipers get hung up on the parking brake shoes.
First make sure you didn't set the parking brake.
Second, back the pads off by rotating the star wheel inside the rotor. There should be a hole with a rubber plug in it. Remove that and use a flat blade screwdriver to back them off. (Lefty-loosey:righty-tighty)
and then get a big hammer and wail on that thing till it breaks free. I've seen some rotors stuck so bad you'd swear the rotor would break in half with all the pounding on it. It will break free eventually though...
Thanks for the feedback. I will attempt again soon. I think I will spray some penetrating oil (WD-40 or so) a few times (prior to removal attempt) around where the hub meets the rotor to see if that helps. I did not try turning the ebrake adjuster last time, that may free it up some. I will let you all know how it goes...Thanks again!

Re-read. I fixed it for ya. Best stuff I've found.
yes Monsta, first turned them, then brought new ones, then turned them. Three different sets of pads. I have been chasing this problem for over a year now
Sorry Monsta forgot the second question, yes fronts are Cryo and Hawks, it shakes the back end of the truck, the steering wheel is fine just the backhalf (see first post)
I had the exact same issue as you are experiencing last month. Shaking like crazy at 45 and above. Swore it was coming from the rear brakes. I replaced the rear rotors and pads and it was still there. It really felt as if it were the rear brakes. I checked everything, rear shocks, my RAS, the bushings, turns out it was the front rotors warped. It did not feel like it. I even had my brother drive me around with me in the 3rd seat. May want to look at the fronts.
