Cooling problem! Help :(

the 1990 5.0 F150 and 1996 5.0 explorer side by side

i can get the explorer fanclutch type but.. i have to space it out shomehow becuase it doesnt line up with the belt drive system of the F150

i dunno what to do here:headbang:

help!

The waterpump came on the reman engine i bought.. the engine is from an 1996 explorer!

and im using all of the F150 accessory brackets.. and they stick a little farther out than the explorer brackets.. so the pulley's are different.
BUT i cant use the F150pump becuase the bolt pattern on different it wont bolt on the block

Use a truck timing cover with a truck water pump or use explorer accessory drive.

What happened to the original engine from your truck?

ok!!. i swapped the pulley from one pump to another.. so it has the same bolt pattern for the pulley and the fan clutch and now i just need to make a 1 3/4 " spacer for the pulley to line with the other belts and thats one less problem

its good to have a friend with a machine shop sometimes!

I forgot about that. For some reason I thought you swapped V8 for V8....sorry. The spacer will probably work, but be careful what kind of bending moment that will place on the water pump shaft and the additional load on the bearings.

Be really careful with that. The extra distance adds a lot of bending in the shaft. Depending on strength of the shaft, it could significantly shorten the life of the shaft (fatigue failure) or the bearings in the water pump. This could be exaggerated if you are running a mechanical fan. Plus any variance in concentricity in the adapter could make the effects that much worse.

It isn't quite the same setup as what you have, but a similar problem caused the 2-car problems this weekend at Pocono. If there had been a 1.750" spacer, it wouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

It ain't cause of the mechanical fan, it's cause the force the belt puts on the pulley is positioned so far away from the front bearing. Of well, just get used to the thought your water pump will live shorter than most others - I don't think it will snap the shaft, no way, but the bearings will wear out faster. No big deal, pumps are a wear item to begin with.

Probably not, but I would not be surprised if it did
