Im not to happy with the way my box changes gears. I live in a valley and have a pretty steep climb to get up the top on the way to work. for the first bit its tight and winding and she runs good in second holding around the 2000 rpm range. Then it opens up for the final run. It will change into third at about 30mph but the darn thing will hold it until I reach about 50-55 mph at about 2000-2500 rpm. Now the motor is not at full operating temp at this stage and I dont like the fact that Im holding 2000+ rpm.
I have a MACK truck with an allison auto in her and if I hold the pedal down it will hold each gear to full rpm. If I wish to change gears a bit quicker and not go full revs I can just back off a little on the pedal and she will change up. I would like the same control over my F Truck box. I hope you understand what Im getting at
Sounds like you could use a DP tuner or TW chip. They control the transmission as well. I have some issues sometimes with how it shifts in my 80hp tune but it's made for fuel econmy. Change it over the 120race and it seems to shift very quick when I ease off the pedal instead of holding the gear until a sertain mph like in the 80hp E tune.
Im running the RACE mode on my EDGE programmer and its still holding when I back off on the pedal. I will most probably get the DP later on. Thought there might have been something else out there. I absolutely love the control I get out of the allison box
The problem with low RPM's going uphill (or with a load) is EGT's can skyrocket on the 7.3L. So you have to be careful. Contrary to what people might think, higher RPM's on the Powerstroke is actually a good thing, especially with a slight or even heavy load on the engine. It's easier on the engine itself to do the work at 2500 RPM's than it is at say 1500 RPM's.
I have noticed the EGT's rise when OD is used up hills and I agree with selecting third for that purpose. But I would like the selection to be my choice not the box. Its just that first climb to work. The truck has enough ***** to go into top and I beleive thats what it should do when Im holding at say 2200 rpm and back off a little with the peddle. If its in top and I want it to drop down a simple firmer push of the pedal should faciltate that. You know what im saying ??

Yes I get what you are going for. The issue here is programming. Comparing the Allison to the 4r100, there are some big time differences in electronic control. The PCM on the Powerstrokes is what controls the transmission, and it is somewhat limited to how it can be programmed for shift tuning. In this case, you would have to program the shift patterns yourself, either with Sniper tuning or PHP tuning. However, those still use the stock PCM for all your transmission controls, which is limited, and you might not get the results you want with the pedal control and upshifting (there are limited options for throttle input). If you want full control of the 4r100, you would have to buy a PCS controller. This pulls all control out of the PCM and gives you more access to a larger list of transmission controls. The problem now is cost, as the PCS runs about $900 USD.
Oh well that blows that idea. Just live with it hey. thx
Not saying it can't be done, it's just rather difficult. Transmission tuning is probably one of the hardest things for a person who is tuning to get right. I've had my truck live tuned, and I still have little quirks with my shifting from time to time.
