Exclamation 351w timing setting

First i tried doing a search, no matter what, even using + between each word doesn't help, The search function is not like it used to be, i miss the old search. Or did i get stupid? lol

Anyways, i just installed a 351w, has a RV cam in it, edelbrock performer intake with a Holley 600 cfm carb on top, i have a set of long tube headers connected to some thrush welded mufflers. true dual setup, hope to put a H pipe in soon.

Sense it ain't stock i know i should tune the timing by ear as I've been told, i also don't even know what the factory timing was on these engines cause i didn't take the sticker on the Donner truck at the Grave yard and it used to have a I6 in mine. So what was the factory timing and does anyone else have a similar setup to mine and if so what timing do you recommend.

P.S. I'm scared to advance the timing to much in fear i might not hear the pinging over the Loud exhaust lol..

Static and dynamic compression ratios? Cam specs? What heads? Quench distance? Vehicle weight? Do you tow? What octane do you run? Also what type of pistons are you using?

Come on people, I don't get why folks don't provide any info when they ask a question.

Good starting point is 12*-14* initial and 34*-36* total at 3000 RPM.

Wow i feel stupid all of a sudden........... Ummm i think i'm just gonna advance it till i hear pinging lol

I can tell you it is, the engine is a 86 with stock heads, i'm not sure on the cam, the machine shop i took it to had it with a kit through engine tech and i just know it's a rv cam, i dont tow daily, not sure on weight, it's a ext cab regular 8ft bed F150 2wd or i mean to say it's a 4X2 lol. Pistons were stock replacement and i use 87 octane, just the regular stuff.

Thanks though..
