The Ford a/c of late stinks. At idle on hot days it almost does nothing. I don't know if this was designed that way to save fuel or what, but it stinks. I have heard people adding a bit of freon helps.

Sure it does. Just turn up the fan if it's not cold enough for you. Like I said, it's about the same as my -97 F150, and it can cope with the daily 100+ temps here in the desert, so I'm not complaining. Maybe you fellers have the crew cab with more space to cool down. I have the extended cab.

Here's one thing about the fresh air fan, I mean with the ac shut off, that's the same as my '97 and i still don't like it. The air it fans in isn't the temp of the atmosphere, it's warm.

What's a "screw"? Does the extended cab have some vents in the back to close? I have so much junk back there I can't even tell.

"Screw" is short for Super Crew. My '09's FX-4 Screw ac works a helluva lot better than my '04 Screw Lariat's did.

Well you must be one of the lucky ones who has a perfect a/c. Many others do not, and turning up the fan just blows more not that cold air.

Actually now that you guys got me thinking about it, the a/c is peculiar. Sometimes it'll freeze you outta the truck and sometimes it is just mediocre. I think it has to do with the outside temp. It doesn't really seem to think you need cool when it is in the 70's but in the 80's up, it cranks it out. That's how mine seems to act. Will observe some more to see if it seems cyclic.

Putting AC on flat out aint always the best option. If you are blowing a lot of warm air through the heat exchanger to get your cab cooler quicker you are going to be sucking all the cold out of the exchanger quicker than it can replace it. Sometimes it's better to have your fan on a lower speed so that the air that is blowing over the heat exchanger is cooling down for longer before it passes through. It's like a hair dryer, You put the hair dryer on max heat then turn the fan to a faster speed and the temp goes down. Same thing happens with AC but the heat warms the exchanger up.

I don't know. Like I said, it seems to be about the same as my '97 F150, and I liked the ac in that one and I never had any trouble with that one at all - 331,000 miles. It copes with the desert inferno here, temps over 100 F, so what more could I ask? Do all the people with problems have "screws"? There's more space in that to cool. Also, I have the 5.4 engine if that makes a difference.

I thought all the new vehicle ac's had user changeable filters, like a home ac, but apparently not.

My 05 extended cab's a/c sucked when i first got it, i copied an idea I got from here and installed a valve on the heater hose and gave the a/c a charge, now it works like it should

Cool

Well, I've decided it ain't any better than the '04. Sometimes it'll run you out and at others it will leave ya sweatin'. That's on "auto".

The '09 a/c on my truck is significantly better than the a/c on my old '07 and '05. I have the auto climate control, set it and forget it. It quickly cools the cabin down and keeps it nice after that.

My 09 f150 is only just adequate around town. Up on the highway it cools off ok. Would like to see ford do a little better here.

One the ones I have test drove the a/c seemed about the same as my 06' for what I could tell. The trucks I drove both had auto or manual climate control.

In my 06, it gets icy cold.(I have manual climate control) Today it'sabout 90 out and if I put my fingers in the vent hole I can not keep them in there for more then 15-20 sec's. When I am cruising done the freeway it seems to do it's best other around town driving.
