changing 4.2L V6 engine

Considering your just going to replace the engine, most any typical chiltons/haynes manual should suffice. In essence the wiring harness has to be disconnected from the framework, and exhaust system as well.Once these are disconnected, and the fuel system is dis-connected.The primary objective is to find appropriate attaching points for the hoist, and dis-connecting the motor mounts, and tranny bell housing(and torque converter) bolts. You will need an IN-Depth service manual to cover all the "fine points" but if you have the place, and tools,as well as time its a walk in the park.
The "Normal" engine in these trucks(facing forward) are installed just like the "old school" vehicles....I would MUCH rather pull the engine out of my F-150 than pull the engine(which I had to do) out of my Mitsubishi 3000gt(Sideways motor AWD!).
Concerning EXACT instructions on the swap,I cant do it...wish I could assist further.

just did this last month on my 97 4.2. like above said get you a $20 manual from an auto parts store, it will save you a lot of headaches. the trans bolts are the hardest to get to. take the top 3 out from the top, not the bottom. you will probably break the manifold to exhaust bolts, I did, only a $20 repair at exhaust shop. this was the first motor I EVER pulled and it was really easy and had it going in less then a week only working on it a couple hrs a day after work each night. I replaced mine with a 3.8 from a 04 Mustang. (way cheaper then a 4.2 and less miles)
