It may not be the HPOP. Mine recently died and would crank but not start. I also had the electric motor buzzing sound. It turned out to be the fuel pump. It was much cheaper to replace than the HPOP.
Aladin......that was my guess to.
Alamojimmy.......check to see if the fuel pump runs when you turn on the ignition. You will be able to hear it. If you hear no noise from the fuel pump, I would say that is the cause.
Fuel pump is running and plenty strong. When I changed the fuel filters, I had a buddy turn the key on while I had the small filter out just to check it. It was pumping a crap load of fuel out.
The guys at Ford should be able to diagnose the problem with the codes correct? If they start shotgunning parts I am going to be P!$$#D. When I talked to him on the phone, he sounded like he had a good idea of what it could be. He said he will of course check to make sure first. I am so leary of those guys. UGGGGH
Sounds like hpop went south, found metal in IPS on mine, it would start back up cold but would die out when hot.Had less than 500 psi required to make injectors pulse. Was on way to Florida for vacation, In Jackson Mississippi, cost me $3,000 for the repair and I am a mechanic, but not something i can fix on the hotel parking lot.
I am a Ford diesel tech, I agree it does sound like you are dealing with a high pressure oil pump issue but a Injector Pressure Regulator IPR valve could also cause this. Since you have already unplugged the icp sensor and it still didn't start then if it is high pressure oil related then it has to be one of these two components. 2003 trucks had different oil rail manifolds than later years and didn't suffer from o-rings failing. Either way you are looking at a expensive repair. Hopefully you go to a good dealership with a quality mechanice. Not all of us are crooks or hacks!!!
I have the same problem with a 2003 F250 with a 6.0 L diesel, I have disconnected the icp sensor, and changed the fuel filters, pumps fuel OK, cranks good, but won't start. Does anyone have the steps to check for high oil pressure to pop off injectors?, I have a guage that can read to 5,000 PSI. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks man. I know not all of you are hacks. Just like anything else though, that is primarily what you hear about. Not many people sing the praises of their mechanic. I like to acknowledge when people treat me right and do things the right way and I will do so when warranted. It is possible that I fell into the "sky is falling" crowd. It is just difficult to drop a considerable amount of money with someone you hear so many negative things about. That is not just a Ford mechanic. It's Chevy, Plumber's, Roofers and insert any other service here. It is a crap shoot. Rambled enough. Thanks for the input on the possible problem.
I will let everyone know (good or bad) how this situation plays out.
Just got mine out of the shop for a similar problem. Diagnostics revealed that the fuel control module was bad. While servicing, the technician discovered my #2 injector was bad as well. Hope that helps.
Dealer called me Friday evening while I was on my way to the River to tell me that they isolated it to the HPOP. Then told me that it was going to cost a little more for labor because my truck is so big and they have to climb up and down it. LOL. Price we pay I guess right.
$3,380.00 I will let you know how it runs when I get it out.
Thanks Steve. Good to be seen. LOL. Thanks for the thoughts. I don't really mind I guess. I mean you always mind with that kind of money BUT, I should not have to worry about it anymore at least for a while. To me, that is what counts.
It was the HPOP. They replaced it along with a new Exhaust Back-Pressure Sensor valve and the truck runs great. They did a flash on the PCM along with all of the normal stuff they do when they have them. Truck is running better than ever. They had the exhaust down pipe a little mis aligned when I picked it up so I had to take it back for them to fix that but, that was only a one day thing and I was back up and running the next day.
