Need some help please. 2003 6.0 PSD 30,000 miles. Was driving it running fine then it died and will not start back up again. Let it set all weekend, went to try it this morning for the hell of it and it fired up but ran really rough and I immediately shut it off. Changed the fuel filters and will not start at all. Any help, as always, is appreciated.
No I haven't. I read in a few places about the high pressure oil issue. I don't see anything anywhere on it. Is that what it sounds like to you even though it started (although not really i guess) this morning?
Disconnected ICP sensor. Still no start. Batteries are a little weak though. Used a jump to try and help. Turned over fine but, not sure enough to run engine. There was something running (electrical motor sound) the whole time I had the key on. Normaly everything will shut-off if the key is left on, without the engine running for a minute or two. After I disconnected the sensor, something was running the entire time. Possible weak batteries????? About to just unplug the Edge Programmer, take it to the dealer and let them fix everything. Any ideas?
Are those batteries original? Curious. Could also be a glow plug issue though if it's warm outside it would start and run real rough for a few minutes. Any codes?
Not sure about codes. Check engine light is always on thanks to aftermarket air intake. Have not ran the codes. They are not Motorcraft batteries so I don't expect they are original. Not sure how old though. Never had any problems with them prior to this. Always started right up. Even the day that it died which was about 30 seconds after starting it up.
I was towing in a convoy recently and my brother in law's 05 f450 did just that, died and wouldn't restart. It was the hpop at 35,000 miles. In fact it was the second time in a year. Fortunately we were in a group because we were 250 miles from home in the middle of bfe.
Really starting to sound like HPOP. Not sure I want to tackle that job anyway so I am pretty sure it is headed to the dealer today. They are saying they won't even be able to look at it until next wednesday. I am so reluctant to take it to those guys. Seems there are only horror stories about the dealers and these trucks. I love this truck even thought it is becoming a money pit. What I don't want, obviously, is to throw money at it and never get anything fixed. It is so sad that noone has faith in their dealer........
I have only ever had mine shut off and not start back up a couple times for two different reasons. Once was the HPOP at 38,000 but I think that SteveBricks is right that if it was the HPOP it would not have restarted for you at all.
If your fuel guage is around 1/4 tank give or take a little you may have the same problem that I had. There was a valve in the fuel screen boot that had popped out and around 1/4 the truck was sucking air instead of fuel, if I let it sit for a while or got it to a different angle it would start back up but it would run rough because it was still starving for fuel.
If it is around 1/4 tank you could try dumping a 5 gallon can of fuel in and if it starts that may be your problem, It was a pretty easy fix that I posted a couple weeks ago.
It may not be the HPOP. Mine recently died and would crank but not start. I also had the electric motor buzzing sound. It turned out to be the fuel pump. It was much cheaper to replace than the HPOP.
