2001 F-350 super duty with 7.3L PS, crew. Auto. tranny, stock everything except for air intake (The big NAPA filter).
I am getting a new 5th wheel camper. The dry weight is 9,395. Gross is 12,500lbs.
My first 5'er. I've towed bumper pull camper/trailers for years at various weights & lengths, but none this heavy.
So my question(s)) is/are . . . what mods would you perform to this truck to get a decent mpg, no significant loss of power (or even more power), and whatever else I've left out.
I'm not looking for nor would I expect miracles, but I know there are many "bolt on" options like 4" exhausts and chips and such. I belive it already has a stock tranny cooler . . . not sure.
Oh yeah .. . I live in Wyoming and it is not uncommon to drive over mountain passes both paved and unpaved. (6000 - 10,000 feet above sea level.)

Reason: added thought
My opinion..
1st, Gauges, watch your boost ( help toubleshoot in the future ) pyro, watch that exhaust temp, Trans temp
2nd, Exhaust
3rd Trans.. Transgo shift kit at least
4th larger transcooler
If this truck is going to be used for only your fith wheel, I would suggest a 60t program from DP, or Tony, or one other that I dont know the name of, I want to say Power Hungry Performance. Do get the chip last though, they will want to know your mods before they tune.
Well, definitely open up the exhaust and get a 4" exhaust. Before anythign else, get soem gausge, boost, pyro and tranny temp at a minimum. Then you can work on getting a chip, either from TW, DP-Tuner, PHP etc. i have anOld DP-Tuner and will be going with a DP-Tuner F6 in the near future with my mods i have at home to throw on my rig. Then once u do all that, if u have the funds and want more, thats where it gets really fun. hope this helps.
Thanks. No, it is also my go to get bread truck . . . general every day transportation.
The 4" exhaust, is that what they call a " cat back "? Or from the turbo?
As others said, no, turbo back.. and when you start shopping.. Clay here ( riffraft ) is a lot of help..
If she is your everyday.. it will be up to you as to what you want to do.. As you can see, I have the 80t, this is good from 4,000 to 8,000. If I tow more then that, I will switch to stock. The 80E is for just the economy. Althoug I have only seen a increase on the expressway. THe 120, well, I use that when I get next to one of those rice burners withthe base up so much my seat shakes, well, I give a little base back.. with Visual effects.. IT works better when their window is down...
I just realized you are right, non of us did so..I talked a little about it, but never sent you in that direction, sorry.
But again, you do want to start with gauges, Air intake, exhaust, trans ( recomend, but not needed ), then Chip, transcooler at anytime during the process, but would recomend after the gauges. You get to see the difference.
As far as chip..
DP, Toney Wilderman, PowerHungry performance.. Hope that helps..
Check again, Chips are great but the recommendation was to do the gauges, exhaust and tranny upgrades first. Gauges and tranny are a must do first if you want your truck to last, exhaust can be done after chip but you'll want to reprogram your tune if you chip before exhaust.
I got a nice performance increase from the exhaust going 4" turbo back. I have orderered a trans cooler and will probably follow with valve body upgrade. Chip is hopefully somewhere down the road.
SLOOOOOOW on the keyboard, see other responses for similar, sorry 'bout that.
