I have a set up similar to yours except my 5ver is a little bit lighter. I am currently in the OBX with my camper (over 500 mile trip) & I couldn't be happier with my set up & the way it towed. I averaged between 10-11 mpg (60-70 mph) on the trip down towing & driving around down here I got 21 mpg, but its as flat as can be down here. The only thing I can suggest to you that I myself will change some day is to get the 40 tow also if you get a DP Tuner because back in PA towing, my exhaust gases tend to get high on the longer grades. I'll eventually get a larger exhaust, which will help from what I understand, but just can't justify it right now. Other than that, I love my 80e & use it the majority of the time.
The HD2 and Tugger are very similar, the Tugger has trans pump mods that require pulling the trans to install and a few other differences. You can still buy the Tugger and just not install the stuff that requires pulling the trans, but at that point you basically have an HD2 kit IIRC.
These guys have you covered, but I march to the beat of a different drum sometimes so I'd do things a bit differently in this order:
Air bags - not necessary, but they sure do make those long drives much easier to handle
2002+ headlights
Gauges - for obvious reasons
Trans cooler - either a bigger one or auxillary like the Tru-cool
John Wood valve body
ATS inlet housing
Dp-Tuner with tow tunes
Exhaust
Then go from there....
That's the way I would do it if I had to do it again. It's just easy to spend all the money at once on engine stuff, but I think it's a good idea to do the other things also that will make it easy on you. Such as seeing well at night and having good control on a heavy load. The compressor surge I had after adding the tunes was something I wasn't prepared for, and I would do that housing first if there is ever a next time.
