Hi Gang, please forgive me if this has been discussed before, but....
I was up Advance Auto's web site this weekend and noticed a message stating that when the EPA mandated diesel fuel going to it's ULS blend, that pre-07 diesel engines could experience lower performance due to the removal of some of the chemicals in the process of making ULSD.
I understand that Advance Auto is in the business of selling products, so I took the message with a grain of salt, but thought I would ask all the "grey beards" here what you thought about putting in a fuel additive for ULSD. One product I read had me adding 12 oz to 30 gal of diesel. That sure isn't alot and doesn't sound like that ratio would much of a difference.
I've been using DieselKleen additive since I bought my truck. Its available almost everywhere, including Walmart. It comes well recommended but I'm sure others will recommend what they use also. I have read over and over you should use something. Good Luck.
Grey Bottled DieselKleen for me also.
85k and no fuel related problems. As a side note: I have always gotten better mileage with DieselKleen. Most all my miles are unloaded on the Interstate.
The sulpher in diesel was a lubricating property. when they took this out, per Environmental Terror Agency, the makers put in other chemicals to help lube the pumps and injectors. But, I do use additives to help for insurance. everyone has their opinion on what is "best". That has been hotly debated before. Use what your comfortable with and is easily available in your region if you choose to use an additive.

What mpg are you getting on the interstate and at what mph? I'm getting 17.0 running about 67mph through the hills on I65. Also is your truck 4X4? Thanks.
For 2 years now I have been using ashless 2 stroke oil at a ratio of 1 oz per gallon of fuel, also I use stanadyne cetane booster but when winter comes I substitute the Stanadyne for Dieselkleen antigel. Manufactures of diesel engines will say you don't need any additives for lubricity, but it makes me feel good to add it and thats what counts.
Dieselkleen white bottle in cold weather, and silver bottle when temps are going to stay over freezing. I run 8 oz. to every tank. I get about 1 mpg better using the additive. Any driving style 1 mpg better. Powerservice dieselkleen is the only other brand other than Ford's additive recommended by my dealership.
My vote goes for the TCW3 rated 2-stroke (1oz per gallon), you won't belive it till you try it. At $11 a gallon at Wal-Mart it's cheaper than other additives.

I get the Motorcraft diesel additive in the gallon cans at the Ford dealer, I was told Stanadyne makes it for Ford.
Two stroke oil is the best for lubricating. The stadyne would be my second. Diesel kleen does little to lubricate. Given the btu's of diesel kleen I doubt it gives any milage benifit on a clean engine. I used to use diesel kleen in the past but after reasearch the walmart ashless 2stroke oil does quiet the engine and provides better lubrication. The diesel kleen is a great cleaner but is a poor lubricant. Do a search or pm me and ill get ya to a great test on additives that is a eye opener
