I think I got it narrowed down.....Another ESOF vacuum test...

Since my other post here( HERE) seems to have run its course I decided to start another one as I think I have it narrowed down.

Ran a MityVac test as suggested on the solenoid
------------------------------------------------------

Key on, vent on, fan on low, ESOF turned to 4x4 Hi ....

Passenger side plugged w/ golf tee and driver side hooked to Mityvac

--Engagement 30" for 40 secs......disengagement 15" at 12 sec

Drivers side plugged w/ golf tee and passenger side hooked to Mityvac

--Engagement 30" for 40 secs......disengagement 15" at 12 sec

Did this twice per side. Seems like solenoid is fine.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hooked Mity Vac directly up to driver's side hub that has never been replaced....held 20lbs on two squeezes of Mity Vac

Passenger side hub that was changed a year ago would not hold anything. I am thinking this is the culprit. Would the Ford truck brain trust agree?

If so...besides the main yellow seal, what else do i need to replace?. This is a brand new hub....as of a year ago. And where is the best place to get the seals?

Thanks fellas.....almost got this done..

As far as getting the seals I would say Ed but not so much anymore. Local dealer or another online Ford dealer.

You have the autolock hub o-ring, the yellow o-ring and the large knuckle seal.

I had my bearing replaced and they didnt install the yellow one and had the thrust washer in on the wrong side which then ruined my knuckle seal. Wasnt a difficult job. Its hard to say which one is bad without looking first.

Sure... I just wanted to make sure I check them all. I don't want to get into it and need something else. Also would like to check prices and if I can buy them cheaper as a kit that would be good as well.

Thanks for the reply.

I would replace them all while I was in there. The knuckle seal itself is like 45 bucks from the dealer.

Our Ford parts sponsor had just created a kit that would have all the seals for both sides for like 117 bucks or something like that. But since he no longer has any control of that site I wouldnt order from there. I can give you the part numbers in a few when I find them.

O RING F81Z-4A322-AA (yellow o ring)
O-RING-SNAP RING SET 4C3Z-1K106-AA (autohub o ring)
OIL SEAL-FRT AXLE F81Z-3254-CB (knuckle seal)
Front hub seal, f250 F81Z-1S175-HCA

One of each of the above is what you need to do one side all the way to the knuckle seal. You will need to build/buy/borrow a seal driver to put that knuckle seal on though.

I thought it was kinda steep too until I got the knuckle seal in. Actually a pretty impressive part for what it is.

I'm reading about your homemade seal driver in other threads. Looks like it works for some and others its does not.....I've just seen a pic of it. What does it entail.... parts wise to build...... and cost?

I built mine for like 15 bucks from 3 parts at Home Depot. I will post the link I used to build mine in a few minutes. I had never done this and it worked for me the 1st time.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...-joints-2.html

Post 36 for details and post 38 for picture! You will need to grind down the flange a litle to make it work like it should.

Great thread for future use as well. thanks for the link

I can't seem to find a good place to buy the seals from. Powerstrokeshop has always been a good place for me but they aren't liking those part numbers. I'll keep looking.

Its not on the hub itself...its on the inner side of the axleshaft. Ill see if I can find a pic to better explain it.

Not the perfect picture but you should get the general idea of where that dust cover is...
