differnt dist. gear for hyd roller and hyd ?
I bought a cheapy pro-form distubtor (spelling I know ) for my 88 H.O 5.0 (SWAPPING TO CARB AND 1 WIRE DIST. FOR NOW . ) In the past I have heard of people using differnt dist . gears for differnt cams . Will the gear on the pro form dist work for the stock 5.0 cam ? The reason I ask is I had a problem with getting it in this morning . Not a major problem just a small inconvience . (Had to tap the top of the dist . with rubber mallet to get to fall all the way in .JUST A TAP.

ive been through this quite a few times. as long as the gear is cast iron, iron, or steel it will work with the hydraulic roller and flat tappet cams regardless of what company makes it (oe or aftermarket). the bronze gear is the one to watch out for. if the gear has a bumpy finish to it its cast iron, if its smooth its either iron or steel, bronze is a no brainer by the color. hope this helps you some.
