Raining here in Southern Maryland so instead of giving my F250 a much need wash I crawled under it and started to look around. I have questions as this is my first V10.
First, man that stock oil filter looks really small to what I am used to. Do you guys keep the stock size filter after the first oil change or do you opt for a larger filter?
Second, I have searched this forum for exhaust topics and I have not found my answer. I am looking at my stock setup and I have confused. I see the CATS and the very restrictive pipes to the Y pipe then a fairly goods size pipe maybe 4" to the muffler. Out of the muffler is a smaller pipe maybe 2.5" that is bent is some pretty extreme angles to something that looks like another very small CAT then out of this is the tip.
What is this other smaller looking CAT like chamber?
Third, I know this subject has been talked about in various different threads but what would be the best exhaust modification to wake up this V10? This truck is not much "throater" then my wife's Dodge Grand Caravan. Mind you I do not want to lose performance just for sound. I see the restriction at the CATS and after the muffler, would a full CAT back system be best and if so is there a one that someone would suggest? Or would an free flow muffler and large and long tip be best? Would saving up and getting a new headers and the whole taco be the best bang for the buck?
Stick with the stock oil filter and you won't have any problems (Motorcraft FL-829S silicone Valve).
The stock exhaust manifold looks good compaired to earlier years, don't worry about the 2.5" pipe size as it increases torque and velocity compaired to 3". I may change out the muffler to a wideopen type but i don't see one made yet thats long enough as i don't want any 'drone'.
Ok so I am no mechanic and this I will freely admit. I love to learn thus the reason I read such forums. When you told me a resonator I had to look this up.
Too damn funny... funny... funny... funny... I've been away for a bit, and haven't seen that. Still laughing. Took my mind off of the mice running around in my walls and ceiling! Wish I could squeeze a cat thru a 3/4" hole in the wall to get 'em. Well, I could, but that would be messy.
