Various questions for ford enthusiasts
Howdy all New to the ford forum. Been running around in a jeep and got tired of it,wanted a fullsize truck so i got a single cab short bed 4x4 with the triton 5.4 and auto tranny.. GOt some questions for you all. A: has anyone ever had an experience with the overdrive light on the gear shift flashing? when i press the overdrive, the tranny will go in and out of overdrive properly but the light just flashes? B: Whats the best way to level the damn thing. i have jacked up the torsion bars and it sits level now. however if i go over a bump or a hole that causes an over extension an strange noises from the cv joints... is there anny safer way to fix this, i dont see the point in paying 150 bucks for a new torsion key thats just going to do the same thing as crankin up the stock ones. C:What kind of issues will i have if i get a set of 32x12.50 on a 16x 10 wheel? will i rub a lot none at all or what? if i used an 8 inch rim would that be better? any help is appreciated.

The flashing overdrive light is basically the check engine light for the transmission. It could mean something little or serious.
Are the cv axles worn out? Maybe with the increased cv axle angle the old worn out joints make noise?
A 32" tire shouldnt rub at all on your truck, but it will look small. I have 33s on my stock 2wd which is lower than the 4wds. Some guys fit 35s on there 4wds with minor rubbing with the torsions cranked.

I have a 97 4x4 ext cab with the bars cranked but I also have an add a leaf in the rear. I run 305/70/16 on 16x10 rims which is a 33x12.5 and I had to trim the front valence a very small amount but I have no rubbing now. Depending on how many miles the truck has, you may want to replace the cv axles. With the bars cranked, the inner boot tends to wear faster so keep an eye on that.

i recently cranked the bars on my super crew and i've got the 265/70/17, i think about a 31" tire and there is a lot of room to fit larger tires in the well.
of course today when i added mud flaps i noticed that my ball joints with no problems have finally got a skosche of play on one side and that same side the cv boot ripped, sealed it with rtv for a quick fix that i don't see lasting long.
if you have running boards and don't mind the wear on your rocker panels i would remove them, makes the truck seem higher than it is.

hahah well the cv joints are new.. I raped the dealer when i bought the truck from him, he had it for almost a year and i had asked him once or twice about it already. It had some "front end problems" so i took it to my favorite tire guy and we looked at it and put together a list of things it needed. so for me buying the truck the dealer had to buy all the parts to fix it this included: new ps pump and pulley, new tie rods outer and inner, new cv axles, new shocks, new idler arm, new upper and lower ball joints with the arms for the upper, new bearing hubs, new pads new rotors, new calipers and associated hardware, shocks, and an alignment when i got everything replaced. I only payed him $4000 for my shining beauty and he got shafted with the $1340 parts bill.
So A ten inch rim will fit fine with no problems? I am not against trimming any seeing as how i come from the jeep world.
