I was wondering if there were very many other people that still have coyote wagons, and if very many other places in the country ever did. In the 80s and early 90s there were quite a few around here(Barber county, Ks) and 75% of them were 73-79 Fords. I personally don't hunt coyotes, but I've always loved the trucks. If you have or had any, please post your story and specs. I'll post mine later.
I saw a 64 galaxy with the roof cut off out on a buddy of mines place. I asked what happened to it, he said oh thats dad's old coyote car. I wanted to cry it was an original 390 4spd car.

What is a Cotote Wagon??
Is that a huntin' truck?
what makes a truck a huntin' truck anyways?
Sorry I don't mean to be or steal your thread,I'M just curious.
Well anyways,have a great day!
up here in NW kansas (Rawlins county) people still run them. Ten or fifteen years ago most people ran 80's chevy's cause they were cheap. i know a kid here now that runs like a 2006 Dodge crew cab! my brother in laws family by grinnell (Gove county) runs a lot of 73-79 f-150's.
for those that dont know, a coyote wagon is a truck used to chase coyotes with. typically its a solid axle truck that runs good, may or may not be lifted, body condition not critical, often with flatbed and/or dog box that can be opened from inside the cab.
I did my first year of coyote hunting this year and it was awesome!!! Just cruise through the fields at slow speeds and chase them up and if you see one hammer it and haul ***!!! Major fun. We got 44 of them between jan. and march. Usually had around 8-10 pickups every sunday. Definitely hard on trucks. My 76 body was junk before I started but now is real bad. The tailgate is held in buy a chain and binder. Bottom mounts were rusted and with the beating it in the fields they are now gone. That is why the 71 body is going on now. You don't want a nice truck to do this(unless you're rich) but everyone should try it. It's a great winter time adreniline rush since I can't drag race in the snow.
I guess coyote wagons are pretty much just local. In the 80s we had a major over population of coyotes, and you could get like 50 bucks a piece for their hides. Some people really got into it. Most of the trucks were shortened. Mine have a 114 and 115 inch wheelbase. And yes, it is very hard on them. Ford's are the only ones still around. all the guys that ran chevys had to junk 'em after 2 seasons max. My '79 was active for 10 seasons, now a daily driver and avid recreational trail rig. There is one rich guy that runs chevys that are only a few years old, but he replaces them 2-3 times a year. Just goes to show you how tuff our Ford's are.
I want to mount a video camera in my truck for next year so all you guys can see how much fun it is. That is my plan anyhow. Just have to figure out how to mount it so it doesn't get beat to crap. It would be awesome you tube video.
