Too many REGENS

It seems to me I'm getting too many regens, whats normal? I have a 08 2whl drive F-250 6.4. Its going into regen about every 100 miles. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm pulling something to driving empty. Took it to dealership, they hooked up their computer thing and said everything was ok, just running the way its suppose to. I'm frustrated with the mileage as I got better mileage last year with less then 5,000 miles on it then I am now with over 10,000 miles on it.

could be how you drive it to a certain extent. If you drive it hard and the motor gets good and warm then it should be in more of a self cleaning mode. In other words everything is hot enought that I would not need to do the regen that you are seeing.

It would still regen but maybe not quite as often.

I only say this because it would appear that you do not put too many miles on it. So is this more of in-town miles?

In town miles- starting and stopping would tend to create more soot-then more cleaning.

Bottom line is this is hard one to control some have better length between regens then others.

Also how you use the truck I believe to be a factor as well.

Truthfully, I drive it easy, rarely getting on it, even when I pulling my 9,000 rv. I live in a small town, most miles are highway miles. What frustrates me is last year it got better mileage, with the same type of usage and fewer miles on it, my driving is the same as last year, and I know it didn't regen as often.

If I were you, I would change fuel stops. I find my truck regens much more often when using bio diesel - 10%. It is getting tougher to find fuel without bio diesel.

If you think you have a lot of regens make a mistake and put in some high sulphur diesel fuel, and you will see regens even more often.

Much like a computer. Garbage in, garbage out.

Thanks, I never thought about bio diesel. Question is how do you know how much bio diesel is there as I don't believe they post it at the pump?

5% is the max according to the owners manual. I have ran it once and mileage, everything was trash. I had no choice at the time. They are suppose to post the percentage at the pump but we know how that goes.

Best advice as stated above is to try a different souce of fuel.

My experience in central GA is that they are now adding 10% bio. I believe that is maximum per FORD book, but it does kill mileage.

I always preferred Flying J while traveling, but their sticker says 10% bio. Also, even at 10% bio, I think we would be ok if the product met the preferred, note I said preferred, not mandated standard of 45 Cetane.

I know the additive guys will chime in, rightfully so. The problem is, add the additive, and figure out your cost per mpg, and nothing is gained.

Somewhere I read that SHELL does not use bio. I plan on changing my fuel stops on my next trip north in three weeks.

I think mine may regen too much too. But I guess it varies. All I do know is that when it goes into regen all I can think about is chopping off the dpf with a sawzall. It is awesome to avg 11mpg over 300 miles, then have it drop to 9.5 in 15 mins!
