Need intense computer help

Okay my sanity is slipping.

My computer has suddenly decided that all my email pictures need to be saved as aspx files instead of jpegs.

I have tried going through Microsoft, tech helps groups etc and no one can help me. I do not know what started it. I do not know what an aspx even is.

I have HP pavilion desk top with 2003 windows xp. all updates have been done. I saved several pics the other day and they were fine and then they started being saved as the aspx. I right click save as and save it into pictures as jpeg and then when it downloads its an aspx.

I can down load pics from sites and they are jpeg. But not from email. I also found six pictures already in my pictures that were saved last year and they have become aspx files. The ones downloaded last year still show actual picture in folders but properties changed.

I contacted Mozilla as I use Firefox and they said they hadnt had that issue before. I have exhausted my internet searches and questions have peppered the internet. Answers have been a pisser to say the least. How can NO ONE know what is happening? GRRRRR!

Please ease my pain. My computer is ready to die a quick death at my hands. I have my duck hunt gun and know how to use it!

Well the easiest thing is to do a system restore back to a day you know they worked..

My guess is that some update has changed things..

Also when saving files does it give you an opportunity to change the file type??

Ray, sorry I didnt find anything humorous about your post. Nor did I find anything to chuckle about....but oh well

Dan I am working this issue as I type.

A techie on a computer site had the thought that perhaps my actual coputer account may be corrupted. So he had me create a whole new user account. I did and this is what happened. I took a pic that Jaymie Lyn sent me of the man in the moon and I sent it to my new AOL account and to my old account. (when I opened new computer user account I had to start over with AOL etc) anyway when i right clicked save image it said "get attachment.aspx" and save as jpeg. Now any pics via cell phone show as "get attachment" it had never done that before i did the complete system restore. Now in my old account it never had the "get attachment .aspx" before. So I just renamed pic "Jaymie-Lyns man in the moon" (took out the old heading) and it saved as a jpeg. Now I go to my old user account log into AOL and try to save same picture. It doesn't say "get attachment.aspx" just "get attachment" but i click save as "Jaymie Lyns man in the moon" and sure enough it downloads it as "Jaymie Lyns man in the moon.aspx"

So as confusing as it may sound I think it has to do with original account. I am wondering if i have a setting somewhere that is wrong? I am trying to figure out how to check AOL setting for pictures as well as windows. Just a pain in the butt.

Scott they tried that fix and it wouldn't work.but will keep you all updated.

I use AOL. I cannot find a setting change for how pics are downloaded.
My new account was also AOL and like I say they start to save as get attachment.aspx but if I rename them they are jpegs. But not in old account.
This is just too frikken weird.
Its the Melissa virus all over again.

Try changing the file extension to .jpg after downloading instead of "saving as".

It won't cure the problem, but if it works you'll still have the images.

I troubleshoot machines infested with the foulness that is AOL by backing up/nuking/reinstalling. No system restore, I just blow them away with a fresh format.

If you can find a way to dump AOL, do so. Its wretched software is loathed by support techs for good reason.

Thank you. I am still miffed at the whole thing.
None of it makes sense at all. I think what makes me more miffed than anything is that NO ONE can tell me what is wrong, how it happened or how to fix it.
I have doen the change extention to jpeg and this is how is saves....melissas pony.jpeg.aspx so joy joy. I think it is time for a new computer.

its a problem with AOL if your only have image issues with AOL email.

did you recently upgrade versions of AOL?

try setting up your email in a client like Thunderbird, or outlook express

We are beginning to think it has something to do with AOL as well. Had a glitch with whole new account where it showed them as aspx and then it saved em different.
Thanks Jake
