Help 6.0 Died

I have been having intermittent issues with this truck, 122,000 miles No upgrades or aftermarket. The truck has been running rough, had ford run the codes. Changed the fuel pump, camshaft sensor, #4 glow plug and glow plug harness. Truck seemed to run fine under load but had a stutter when just kind of rolling down the road Ran some power service grey through for 4 tanks of fuel and everything seemed to clear up. Was running down the road yesterday everything seemed fine then the motor just shut off and engine light came on, and wont start. There were no strange noises or any other indicators of a problem. Towed it home... Do any of you Guru's have any ideas of where this problem might be? Thank you for any help in advance Jim

If the engine light is on there is a related code stored. Get the code and it will be much faster and easier to help you out.HPO leak causes your symptoms.

Don't have a code reader, is there one you recommend? HPO?

Most auto parts stores will read the code for you. Autoenginuity is one of the nest code readers to buy if you want one of your own.

HPO - stands for "High Pressure Oil". You have a high pressure oil pump (HPOP) that pressurizes the oil from the LPOP (regular or low pressure oil pump) as a hydraulic fluid to fire the injectors (hydraulically actuated with an intensifier piston to generate the 27k psig fuel injection pressures).

Change the upper fuel filter before doing anything else (IMHO). When you do, you can verify that it is full and that the fuel pump is transfering fuel to the upper fuel filter bowl.

If it is a high pressure oil leak, getting to the HPOP (pump) and the more common leak points is a fairly big job. Is this something you are considering doing yourself?

Would be nice if those auto stores would come to where the truck is as it will NOT start he says....!

I bought the Innova Model 3130. You NEED to get one that will read vehicles with CAN . Perhaps you have a nearby friend that has a code reader you can use?

Good point Bud - but I have borrowed the code readers before at Autozone - just required a deposit.

I see you have a 2005 model year. Will the truck start this morning now that it has cooled off? Another issue we have been seeing just this weekend is ICP sensors.

Well I had to ask, so if you can read some codes that will be the next step then. Biggest issue is how it died, electrically or mechanically that will show up in the codes.

You may want to call around to different autoparts stores. It was not that long ago that I borrowed one for a deposit (for my sons F150).

Good idea if you can score one. How big of chain and a cement block do they attach just like a restroom key is the question.....

Sounds like what my truck did, was the HPOP and $2400 at Ford. It would crank fine but not fire, upper fuel bowl full, nothing. Warranty company wouldn't cover, whole big mess, but I got 'er back and she's ticking like a Timex. Good luck, keep us posted.
