can some explain to me when adjusting shift points on my ford f250 with 37in tires im trying to get it to go up hills quicker without it going into overdrive i can adjust with my hypertech max energy as follows : 1-2 + or - 100,200,300,400,500 and the same for 2-3 and 3-4 i dont understand it im stupid with motors and vehicles. would adjust the shift points higher help or do i need to go lower
No. The shift points are where the trans is commanded up shift during WOT (some tuners will do mid throttle and slow boosting), it does not command down shifts. Those shift points are adding to or subtracting from the stock shift RPMs. Bringing the shift points will delay the shift as long you are heavy footing the gas pedal.
If you haven't yet, you need to regear it for the 37" tires. I would guess 4.88 would be the minimum you want. 4.56 is kind of the bottom end for 35" tires and I would have been happier with 4.88s. If you want to power up hills, you would most likely want to go to an even lower gear say in the 5:1 range.
ok im lost sorry about this what do u mean by regearing i cant set my speedometer becasue my abs light is on and it shows and error i called tech and they said i need to fix that b4 i can do the speedometer adjustment. and so are u saying to put the shift points at the highest cause my options are 1-2 +100 through 500 and the same for 2-3 and 3-4
I agree with ReAX,you should change the differential gears to offset for the larger tires. Its a big expense to have done but, it would really help your transmission out.
Regearing is removing the either 3.73 or 4.11 gears and replacing them with a higher ratio (low spin, higher numbers). As long as the tires are with in 10% of each other in size, the height of the tires shouldn't create an issue. It's probably a speed sensor, if the speedometer climbs, then it's likely something to do with the front.
Your 1-2 shifts should be on the absolute edge of shifting at WOT. If you can shift through all of the gears under heavy throttle, then the point are okay. Unless you have done some valvetrain work, I would back the rev limiter to stock.
