I am posting on behalf of one of my cowokers that has a 2002 Powerstroke 7.3L with Hypertech's PPIII software loaded on it. All was well until he forgot to set it back to stock before at trip to the dealer. When he got the truck back the dealer had reloaded the truck's software back tio stock and he can no longer reprogram the truck with the PPIII. Gas milage and power loss were instantly apparent. He contacted Hypertech and got the "tough luck" speach from tech support and they directed him to buy the newer updated version of the programmer (apparently there is a new revision of the programmer out now). He was informed that the ?serial number? on the ECU in the truck has changed and it no longer matched what is on the PPIII. So is he really up a creak or is there a way to fix this. For reference the P/N on the PPIII is: 41019 and it is rev 191101. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

That is really poor customer support. Unfortunately if hypertech told him to go take a walk then thats about what his option is. The good news is now he can throw that p.o.s PPIII in the trash and upgrade to something with some real options.....like a Diablo Predator or a Superchip Microtuner, or any of several different custom chips.
yeah, that really stinks, I have a predator tuner, and not only will they give you a code to reset the tuner, but thier upgrades are free and you don't have to buy a new tuner to get the tune. I would like a chip for thier versatility, but right now the tuner is the best for me while under warranty.. I would try getting into hypertechs ear with a little more attitude until they get tired and buckle, otherwise tell him to consider another programmer or chip.. Sorry about the luck, better in the future I hope.
I had a similar problem with my programmer after my dealer worked on my X. I called Hypertech and got the same response (the first time). I just could not accept this idea of being out of luck, so I called again. I talked to a different service rep this time. He told me that is a common problem if the programmer gets interrupted. He said that if I was the original owner and could provide a copy of the receipt to give him, the VIN, "Catch code", & the 12A650 number as well as the serial number on the programmer they could issue me an RGA# so that I could ship the programmer back for repairs. After a week I received a package from Hypertech and to my suprise it was a new programmer and had been preloaded for my X. My old programmer had only one power mode, but the new one has 3 power modes. I have been very happy with the new programmer, but if I had not kept the receipt with my programmer I would have been SOL. Hope this info helps.
