I have a Century cap on my Screw - see pic in signature - and the side windows in that things are REALLY tough to slide. Anyone use a good lubricant or other technique for making them open and close better?
The best lubricants are those that lubricate without attracting too much dirt and grime. Thicker lubricants better meet the requirements you are after. White lithium grease would be very good. However, the spray type tends to dry out. If you could get the grease in a tube with a narrow point, you could put that right into the track. Gel lube would also work great, and it does come in a spray can. It is hard to find however. Molybdenum grease would probably be the best of all.
I'd agree with greases if you don't mind cleaning up the dirt they attract once in a while. Also, if you don't find a way to apply the grease in the track, and -only- inside the track, you can end up with grease on kids, pets, tools, and everything else.
A dry wax lube may be pretty good. Boeshield T-9, developed for Boeing aircraft, goes on wet, but the carrier evaporates leaving a clear wax that does not allow dirt to adhere (a good number of cyclists use it on our chains).
Graphite paint is the best thing in the world. We use it at work for our extendable trailers that are steal to steal (causes alot of friction) that stuff is 100 times better then grease or anything else and it will last a lifetime with one coat.
Graphite does seem like a better bet than grease for keeping build-up and dirt from accumulating. Do you have a product name of the graphite paint you guys use?
The name is Certified Dry Lube. Certified also has different products. We bought this in bulk I'm not sure if you can get it at stores. I do know that there are different brands you could probably pick up at a parts store.
