L.E.O.s

To law enforcement members here. The summer driving/vacation season is here....be safe.

Also, I received an email during a debate about the evils of people that are L.E.O.s I think the thread was started by Opossum......my apologies, but my wife deleted before I could email back...If your still out there send me one again....really its an open invitation to law enforcement...if you just want to talk cop stuff.

Jeff

Ladies and gentlemen of Law Enforcement, I salute you. I spent many years in the Coast Guard very close to the Maritime Law Enforcement community and I'm here to tell you that it's not all fun and games. I'm not going to begin to minimize the efforts of municipal LEO's and State Troopers by comparing what you do to what the Coast Guard does. Two completely different animals fighting the same battle. I simply want you to know that I understand and greatly appreciate what you do.
Your intitial training and continuing educational requirements are a hallmark to your dedication towards future excellence.

When an officer falls in the line of duty he is soon forgotten by the public but never by his own. When an officer strays a little off course in the line of duty, very often times his peers may turn their backs on him and the public will never forget him. It's a tough battle to win. Earning and maintaining the public's trust and using the correct judgement at all times, I suppose the expectation is that you are to be flawless.

Anyway, for what it's worth from little ole me, Thank you.

Tim

Tim, I can't thank you enough for your comments! It's always refreshing to read your posts on this and other threads because I always know I'm in for a treat when it comes to professionalism and regard for this and other topics.

You are right about the continuing educational requirements and the ongoing battle we are all up against in the field. And, I too, salute you my friend! While there are vast differences with regard to the jobs mentioned, they have the same common goal and we should never lose sight of that.

It is also very refreshing to know that there are people like you out there that continue to support us and our profession. There are bad apples in this business and we've covered them in other threads so I won't get into it much here. I will just say that if it is someone that has overstepped their bounds by committing a crime or violating rights, they should be dealt with accordingly and deserve no special treatment or consideration by virtue of the profession.

It's all good and with the continued support we receive from you and others here and elsewhere, we soldier on and stay committed to the profession and the public we serve.

I too have to give kudos where they are due.
I think back to when I was in the abusive relationship and the police came out hundreds of times. They never knew what they were walking into. Dennis had used numerous weapons and so even though they were there at the house as LEO's I was scared to death for them because I never knew what Dennis would do. I am ashamed that they had to waste so much time coming out to handle domestic disputes. My weakness put them in danger every week. I wish I could tell them all I'm sorry. It was my weakness whatever you want to call it that put every one of them in a place they should never have had to be in. I cannot help but think that I may have broke their compassion levels for abusive situations because I stayed as long as I did.

I guess all I can do to pay back in some way is to take care of my Paoli officers. They always know how much I care about them and how much I appreciate them. They are always here within minutes of a call. they always check on me. they always show respect. I make sure I lend an ear, coffee (no donuts but have shared muffins) , and a few laughs etc with them. We have a kewl bond. I cannot thank em enough.

Hey Moose...you don't owe anybody any apologies. First of all, that's part of our job. We try to intervene and do our jobs but I can tell you after doing this for many years, and handling many domestic abuse situations, I have never grown numb to any of it. I will also tell you that I find very little that gives me more joy than locking up an abuser. I've done it countless times over the years and it always amazes me how many of these scumbags want sympathy from LE when it's all said and done. You endured more than anyone I have dealt with (I know the back story and saw the pics) and did what you had to do. I for one, would never in a million years, think any less of you for it. You are a fantastic woman and have weathered the storm well.

Secondly, we know the risks involved with this job. When we respond, we know the potential violence and danger we're possibly walking into. We prepare and train as best we can to handle everything from arresting someone to playing counselor for a parent and kid that are arguing. When you need help, you should never even think that you are burdening LE. Yes, we handle a lot of calls but yours is no less important than the others. It's the people like you and others in this thread that make this job somewhat rewarding at times. I don't care so much about pats on the back from the brass. I'm more interested in knowing that I may have made a difference in someone else's life and maybe helped out a little along the way.

My hat's off to you. You somehow manage to be a mom and hold down the fort there at Motel Hell while being a great friend to all of us. And, I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for your comments and your always unwavering support...you cutie!
