Low idle help
Low idle help
Well, I got the low idle problem. Its gotten progressively worse over the last couple of months and yesterday it actually threw a code. P0506 which is the IAC. I cleared the code with the X3, which now I'm thinking I should have left it in there. Anyway, I returned to stock and cleaned the MAF today but still low idle. Through the site, I figured out that the IAC is a part of these throttle bodies so I have a series of questions.
1. Should I clean the TB myself? If so, whoever has already done it please shed some light.
2. Should I let a dealer look at it?
a. If so, I have a S&B CAI do you think they will try to shiat me on it?
b. Should I wait for it to throw the code again before taking it to the dealer?
Oh, and I by no means, want to take it to the dealer! Should have let that be known up front. If I can somehow get to the IAC cleaned without going that route then I'm all for it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If the IAC is bad...you have to buy a whole new Throttle Body.
what year is your truck?
the older trucks have a different throttle body from the newer trucks...so if you end up with a newer throttle body, you'll have to get your PCM programmed to accept that new style
go ahead and clean the throttle body though. It cannot hurt, and might be a quick easy fix.

just unbolt the TB, then use an Electrical Alcohol (Radio Shack). I personally used a clean rag with that alcohol...the dirt & grime pretty much wiped off
let it dry out
then bolt it back down...10 in/lbs is the torque spec. not much I know

I've got a 05 SCREW 5.4
I'll give the TB a good cleaning and see how that works. Do you think the dealer will try to stick me since I have a CAI? I just had it in to them last week to get my cam phaser changed out so I can't just throw the stock intake back on an ease on in there. Surely the techs will remember.

They might...they could rationalize that you over-oiled your aftermarket filter causing your IAC to stick and coat your TB. Being that the IAC is non-serviceable they could tell you that you need a whole new TB...
Just got back inside from cleaning my TB and that was the issue! It was fouled up pretty good. I'd be hard pressed to say that my K&N filter and the new S&B CAI weren't contributing factors to this build up. If I had to do it all over again, I think I would lean towards a dry filter especially since the IAC is built into these throttle bodies.
