shift kit for a c6

shift kit for a c6
I was thinking about putting a shift kit in my truck. A little back ground its a 94 ford f-150 with a 1977 ford 400 the truck is ment for mud race but its also a daily driver. I have the C6 out and i was thinking it would prolly be easier to put in a shift kit now then later. I was talkin to one of my friends and he said its a real pain to put a shift kit in a c6 is this true and if so why Id like to have firm shifts and not shift unless I tell it 2 because i also have a B@M ratchet shifter so i want it to be kinda like a automatic manule 
and any ideas one wich brand theres like 3 or 4 but for like 30 bux you cant beat it if its not that hard to do
