Drink heavily before you speak - and be sure to post a video

Mention the good of both parties and their families and their love for each other.

If he's a friend....It will be ok Jake. I've done it twice. I mentioned a couple stories from when we were kids, and honestly talked about how the girl made him a better guy.

Draw from within, speak as you post here, be heartfelt and sincere. You'll do fine and know what to say. I never wrote down a word but knew what to say....If I can you can!

And good luck dude!!!! You'll never forget it.

Also good advice. Not much I can add. I've had to do this before both rehearsed and impromptu. To be honest, I did better with the impromptu. The more I rehearsed the other, the more I messed it up. Speak from the heart and it will go fine. Obviously you know these folks or you wouldn't be making this type of speech. Think of some good memories and talk about how these folks compliment each other...how they're better together than as individuals. You'll do fine Jake. Best of luck.

I was best man in my college roommate's wedding, and we lived in a really run-down apartment while roommates. I told a few stories about some funny incidents we had with the apartment when she would visit; I wrapped up by explaining how great of friends they've been to me. Went smoothly.

May you have bread when you are hungry, whiskey when your dry.

Money when you need it and friends when you die.

And from now until then may you be blessed with many years of happiness together.

Blah, blah, blah

I agree with the others--speak from the heart, encourage the new couple, and don't go negative or embarrassing. Save the booze for after the speech.

Yep. From the heart. Compliment the bride, and her bridesmaids.

A couple drinks pre-speech might loosen you up a bit. Don't get into the booze too much until after the speech is done.

Speak INTO the microphone.

"Wow, you really had to jump into the line to lose half your crap, didnt' you? In a country with an over 50% divorce rate, you two are so deluded with a Disney-esque happy ending that you're willing to pull the trigger anyway...amazing! If you were in an airplane, and someone handed you a parachute and said that it would only open half of the time, you're saying you'd jump anyway....wow!

But then...the fact that you two are still willing to take this path in the face of those facts...you must have belief in yourselves and each other. You must truly understand what Lennon meant, as you understand that all you really do need is love. The statistics mean nothing as other people can't feel what you do...you have the opportunity to be your own statistic, and find that happy ending together.

I wish you health, happiness, and hope so that you never lose sight of the fact that you make your own journey in this world regardless of the stats...enjoy that journey together, in love............. But if you don't have a pre-nup, you're both retarded."

I know...I shouldn't be allowed in public.

nice....

He's a very very good friend, was my best man....

I've got a few things I'll be mentioning, they've taken wedding planning to an INSANE level, so that's in,

His parents (are very very strange) and told his bride that she needs to be on welfare (this was a few years ago, but a running joke between our friends)...so I stuffed the word in there....

One suggestion:

Don't bring up that you slept with the bride back in High School and how she's still smokin' hot!

Don't ask...
