I have a 2000 F250 CC 4X4 V10 with an A code rear leaf spring package w/out the overload spring. I had an extra spring and Timbrens added because I pull a large heavy trailer. I would like to upgrade to a B package or something equivalent. I am looking to load share w/the Timbrens. I can get the overload spring for my current setup. However, looking at a B package I noticed that it had a larger leaf spring tie bolt or “I” bolt. I believe it was 7/16” or 1/2” diameter on the B as opposed to 3/8” on the A. With all of this in mind, I have 2 questions. First, does the B package automatically come with the overload spring? And second, if I choose to stay with my current setup and install an overload spring, can I install a larger tie bolt? And if so, what else would I have to replace, if anything, to do this? (Ok, that’s more like 3 questions.) The local Ford dealership is not of much help (i.e. clueless) so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also have contacted many salvage yards in search of B pack, resulting in consistent dead ends.
I don't know if it's a direct replacement, but I think the B code rear springs were standard on the 350's. I don't know if the overload comes standard with B code, but I know it was an option for the A code. 250's (A code) it was an option but on the 350's it was standard.
Thanx Brian.
Any thoughts on the "I" bolt issue? Looked at some 250's that happened to have the B option on them but alas, there are no 350's on any of the used car lots around here for me to scrutinize. This is where the I-bolt issue has come to play because the trucks are the same year on the lot w/the B springs pkg but the bolt sizes are obvious to the naked eye. Very strange indeed...
found a 350 at salvage yard via many phone calls and the man said "UTC" was listed in the spring code on the door. This is a new one for me too...not run across that so either he looked at the wrong numbers or there is yet another avenue to pursue in the quest.
