can someone please tell me if any of the 'highboy' f250 4x4's came factory equipped with an overload spring? if so, what kind of option package did this come with? i have 4 highboys --- a 69, 71, 75, 76 my 76 is the one with the overload spring setup..all the rest (except for my 75--have 9 sring leaf packs and NO overload setup. my 75, on the other hand, has 6 leaf packs? is this right? the truck does sag in the back. how can i tell if they are the correct spring packs? thanks in advance to all!!!
I don't know what packages came with them and which didn't, but I think mine is a standard 73 F250 4x4. It had no power steering, no power brakes, drums front and rear.
Mine has the single spring that sits above the rest via a block about 3/4" thick. The have no tension on them until the truck is overloaded, then they hit against two purches mounted just inside the standard spring mount on the frame.
This design was to improve the ride of the trucks, as the spring has no contact until it's needed.
The highboy's have thinner springs and the rear should have 9 about 2 1/4" wide and a stock lift block that has the bump arm on it. The fronts are 3" and have a positive arch to them.
I was under the impression that all the F250 from 73~77.5 were this way, but maybe not.
Yes there was a factory overload spring on the high boys. My 75 F250 4x4 had the 6 leaf rear and the single overload spring, i also have a 72 F250 4x4 that has the 9 leafs in the rear and no overload spring. Both trucks were custom models with 360 and NP 435, dana 44's in front, light duty in the 75 and H.D. in the 72, i guess just your basic work stripped out work truck from back then.
I have a 68 F250 4x4 highboy that has overload springs from the factory. They mount on top of the leaf pack. (Mine is 9 leafs...I think?!) My overload spring is single spring that mounts on top of the pack on what looks like a 1" lift block. There are two u-bolts with plates that attach the overload spring to the rest of the pack. I took mine off because the springs alone can carry enough weight.
