My mom has a 2006 Expedition Limited with 68,000 miles on it. The doors would unlock/lock themselves, the radio would play all on its own with the key out of the ignition. When you tried to start it, it would act like it has a dead battery. Towed it to Ford and the SMART junction box needs to be replaced. We get it back and is still doing the same thing, back to Ford and it is still there (been 5 days now). Now they are saying that it has a short somewhere that is grounding out the system.
I have never encountered anything like this with any of my other trucks, how about ya'll?
'05 Expy Limited -- my A/C blower stuck on full blast. Once at 14,000 miles (warranty repair) then again at 37,000 miles two weeks ago. The second time the dealer replaced the climate control unit for $50. I don't think I'll be so lucky if it fails a third time.
It was the weirdest thing, if you turned the unit OFF, then it started blowing twice as loud as if it were in "recirc" mode. Turn the key off, turn it back on, and the blower wouldn't go at all. Then if you turned the A/C back ON, the blower started going full blast again. I pulled the blower's fuse and cooled the vehicle using the rear A/C unit until I had time to go to the dealer.
With all the computer circuitry going on there, I'm not surprised there are so many failures. The automatic door locking can be controlled from the so-called "information center" on the dash. When I turn off my key, the radio keeps playing for something like 10 minutes or until I open the door. All of these are computer issues, and I'm afraid you're looking at an expensive replacement.
Electronics are the first thing to go these days. Even on something as reliable as a Volvo. The more gadgets you have, the more that can go wrong.
Good luck, it doesn't mean we have bad trucks, just poor execution of electronic components that were probably imported from the lowest bidder. Just something we have to live with, I guess.
Now I'm worried that I leave mine outside all the time. Not much snow here but it only takes one little leak to ruin your day. I wonder if that's what happened to your mom's truck?
