Last summer, my electrical system seemed to go nuts. 4x4 light flashing, windshield washer light on and off, clicking from under the dash, etc... Seemed to only happen after the vehicle had been in contact with moisture but the effects would linger off and on.
I took it to the dealership and they said both speed sensors were not functioning and they replaced them. This seemed to clear up the problem.
First heavy snowfall 2 days ago, and the problem is back with a vengeance. Putting the vehicle into D or N causes a sound like trying to start the vehicle while it's already running, all the same light blinking symptoms, and I don't need to turn the key to the "start" position, only to 'on' for it to start. Really messed up!!!
Any suggestions where to begin? I have seen references to GEM, any potential link here? Other reference doing a search turned up 'actuator' too.
Would the leak be noticable to the driver? When it snows, lots of slush AND windshield washer fluid used often, but I have never noticed any moisture in the passenger compartment.
It doesn't have to be a lot of water to cause problems. The GEM is attached to the back of the fuse box under the dash in case you'd like to inspect the area.
Yup. Front windshield is leaking and the fuse box is getting wet, thus causing shorts. Have your windshield sealed by experts and you should be good to go.
It is a GEM problem. I had the same issue in September. Ford sealed the windshield on the outside and under the cowling for me. I had to replace the GEM, Fuse Box, and Instrument Cluster.
