Is there a way to get a replacement vin tag. I had to replace the driver door due to a wreck. The vin tag was damaged. Wasn't a big deal if i ever had a problem just figured they would use the frame vin well now in missouri they want a picture of the vin tag and I don't have one. Is the a place to get a replacement or what do I do.
Call the DMV and ask, as this is a touchy situation. The VIN is also on the dashboard; ask if that's acceptable. I used to live in Missouri and all of my experiences with the DMV were pleasant.
FMC400 is correct. The Department of Motor Vehicles, State Police, Secretary of State, etc (whoever is responsible in your state gets touchy about this stuff. There are federal laws involved that deal with removing vin plates, etc. The first question you need to ask thoguh, is where the public VIN is located. On some of these trucks the public VIN was stamped in the frame an the tag on the door was not the VIN tag, only A trim tag containing a partial VIN. If your DMV doesn't know, check with your local police department and see if they can put you in touch with a representative from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). They are very knowledgeable, and are where the police departments go for alot of their data.
I was thinking that the VIN on any piece that could be easily removed thats why you can buy repo VIN tags for old ****** jeeps and such. They will never use the one on the door or any official purpose because doors are so easily swapped.

Yes VIn tags a repopped for a variety of reasons, both good and bad. You should still contact someone in your state, DMV, etc. Legitimate VIN tags are/were appled using specific fasteners for specific years. If you go ahead and put the reproduction tags on, and they are not done perfectly right, it can cause you more trouble in the long run.
A misapplied tag is sufficient for a police officer to impound your vehicle, and arrest you. A BIG hassle.
Yeah, doing it right in the first place my be a bit of a hassle, but it could be alot bigger hassle in the long run.
so if i had a title to and old ford truck i could have vins made. i know someone who has open titles from trucks they had scraped that were not recorded by the scrap yard.
Uhhhh? Like FMC400 sai, just don't break the law. If you were stopped with a set of these vin tags, any police officer with any experience is goning to be looking for a hidden vin. Especially a state trooper, cause they deal with this stuff all the time and will spot an after market plate in a heartbeat. Just seems like you want to take a chance you don't need to take. Do it right, within the law. longterm will be much simpler. Every one of us has tried taking a shortcut o a repair in hope that it would work out and save us some time. Then we have to go back and redo it the right way. This is one of those times when you want to do it right the first time, cause lawyers make a lot of money off of people who take short cuts.
Why make this more complicated than it has to be? Just don't break the law!
Yes, I agree here.
It is a nice service to have. I had to order a new VIN tag and door jamb sticker and they both look factory. I had new doors and a donor cab, but used the title to my chassis. The original VIN tag on the door was gone so I was SOL until I found Marti Auto Works. I checked with my DMV before I found MAW and they gave me the run around about having it bonded and inspected and go through this long process with wouldn't guarantee me a new VIN number. But, since I found MAW, I just went it that and now I'm good to go.
With these trucks people swap out cabs and doors all the time and many VINs are mismatched and whatnot. My suggestion is too go with what is on the chassis first so the truck is technically legal. You hate to get into a scuffle with the law because then the truck could be make illegal and never roadworthy again which would cause more problems and also a huge fine on top of it.
