identify this snake!

I had a snake crawl onto my chest while working under a truck once. My heart stopped. I thought it was a moccasin, but it was just a water snake. I called LSU vet center and they said this,"If its nose is rounded it is non poision. If the nose is pointed, backaway. Also look at the eyes, If the pupil has a slit like a cat it is poisionous, if the pupil is round, no problem.

It's a Garter. It doesn't have the correct pattern on the head to be a corn/rat snake... which can have stripes on their body pattern depending on how they are bred. I've owned 30 plus snakes in my life and find them very interesting. Sure wish I had that one. It's a beauty.
