I have a 93 bronco. I just swapped the e4od in it with one out of a wrecked f-150 4x4 that was supposed to be good when it was pulled. After I installed it, it wasnt shifting correctly I cleaned the electrical connections and it seemed to fix the problem, I drove it around town a few times and it shifted smooth, I took it on the interstate today and it started making a whining noise like when you run over the ripple strips, I backed of the gas and it quit for a few mins, the started again, I got off at the next exit and when I stopped I felt a clunk, I drove through town the rest of the way, The whining sound never came back but each timed I stopped the clunk would happen, When I finally got where I was going it started leaking fluid out of the front? <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->
I would say yes but the torque converter clutch material is now inside the transmission itself. You could get by with the torque converter replacement but who knows how long until the rest of the trans follows suit with the torque converter.
If you still have the old E4OD that you pulled out, and you want to try your hand at overhaulling your own transmission. You can do so with a good long weekend, patience, a good memory/video camera, assortment of snap ring pliers, an arbor press, and torquing specs/sequence information. I have done so on a C-6 and a 4R70W but have wished to have gloves after the numerous cuts received from the sharp edges inside the transmission casing.
are you sure the fluid is full? was it checked while the engine was running? did you put new fluid/filter in that tranny and did you make sure the filter seated properly into the valve body? sometimes there is a gasket that gets stuck up where the filter seats and can cause tranny issues.
