I bought this 80 F-100 to use for parts for my 80 F-150.
She has been abused, the 300 engine doesn't have good compression, and there has been some hacking up of the wiring and cables for the heater system, she has no exhaust light system doesn't work and has an amateur paint job.
Problem is, I feel guilty for stripping this otherwise o.k. truck, I worry that maybe I should restore her to her stock Ranger goodliness.
There is a guy locally that is trying to sell his bump side F-150, I'm not sure exactly what year it is but the crazy guy wants 16,000 for it...
My question is what would all you you do? Try to make one good runner between the two and junk her, or use parts to keep one running while restoring the other?
you've gotta admit, it's a really good looking truck. I'd have a hard time tearing it apart too.
the body looks to be in good condition, but wiring and electrical stuff can turn out to be a pain int a$$.
I'm for restoring her, I think it would turn out to be a great truck.
If you decide not to, then you definitely have a great parts truck
If it was me I wouldn't part it out it just looks too nice in the pics, that style is almost impossible to find around here with out being rusted away. Fix the wiring and get it running decent and try to make a quick buck on it or just keep them both.

some trucks are too far gone to save, this one seems to be on the borderline for me... i'm sure stosh or sycostang could save this one fairly easily... if it was mine and it had a clean title i'd semi restore it (get motor running and fix the hack wiring ect) then sell it to someone who'd appreciate it! if there's no title i'd use it as a parts truck...
keep in mind i do this kind of thing all the time, buy a junker fix it and sell it to the highest bidder... helps me pay for my ramen!
Then again, I can't find myself to part with anything.
It really depends on your financial situation. If you got it cheap enough and have the time, patience and place to store it without neighbors complaining I would say save it.
My junk was way worse than that and I would have loved to have started off with something that nice.
If you do part it, please let me know. I'll see that the parts you don't need go to a good home.
Mine.
I'd love to have that hood, grille, headlight bezels and bumper for my Flareside. And the cab too if it's solid.
The body just looks too good to junk. It looks like it's worth rebuilding the engine that's in it, since you say it has bad compression. I'm curious, how is the interior?
Honestly, I am starting to get attached to her, the only significant rust on her is a 4"x6" section below the driver side rear signal light. Should have heard her driving home, sounded kinda like a blown hot rod when accelerating.
It's going to be hard to get a tranny for her. That's the main reason I got her. I've been searhing the yards around here for a suitable tranny. All the ones I found would require a different drive shaft, or the bearing mount for a two part driveshaft, or a hydraulic clutch system. Speaking of which, I almost pulled a Borg Warner tranny off of an 84 the other day, I stopped short because it had a hyd clutch, this morning I was just thinking they put those on because they are more "efficient", not because they were required like for the ZF5...
While I get my other running, I am going to try and re-build the tranny. It will be my first try at it.

Dash plastics are good, pad has big hole where speaker hole was. The seat needs to be covered (tore up cloth), and the door panels and hardware are missing, also I didn't get keys with it, it had a push button start set up, the heater core was disconnected, probably because of a leak... bout the only thing on her "Nice" is the body and frame.
Thats exactly the one I need, the closest yard to me that has one (listed on website) is +/- 3hrs away, and they want $350, +100 to ship it to me. (Got the truck for 600.) I am just wondering now, like in other posts if maybe a np would be a drop in replacement... but like I said the other rigs around here all have other trannys and drive shafts, It's just a matter of finding one that won't require a lot of fab work...
Like I said, there is a RUG in the yard near me that I could probably get you pretty cheap if you wanted to go that route.
There was another member here that inquired about swapping over to a hydraulic clutch and his cab did not have the knockout for the master cylinder and it didn't look like one would fit either without a lot of work.

What part of Wasington ya in
We are in everett maybe we can help ya out got a pick & pull in lnnywood and a few other yards close by too
I'm up on Whidbey island. I went to Lynnwood the other day looking, Pull a part and some other places, none of them had a RUG.
Stosh, if it looks to be in good condition, and we can find a common ground as far as $$ or what have you, I just wish a local yard had one, the pull a part here only charges $50 for a manual tranny! Just wish they had the same one...
