Ever since my last auto tranny fluid change in the Aerostar 3.0 it has been slowly leaking. Not wanting to hassle with taking it back in I tighetened the pan nuts which were not all that snug (and I did not over do it), but seems to be leaking from above, though not the seals (I don't think). Tranny runs fine, but fluid level seems a good 1 to 1.5 quarts high on dip stick. Is this OK if it is blowing out the vent or am I building high pressures and ultimately going to blow out a seal. Have driven about 3000 miles this way.
Assuming that you are following the procedure for measuring fluid level, being high 1.5 qts is probably risky. You should probably remove the excess. You could use a siphon or if there is a drain plug you might try that but it can be messy.
Excess fluid will possibly cause foaming or blow out the tube or vents.
lol, mine was overfilled, and I did this, and picked the wrong line, and instead of spraying from the line into the bucket it sprayed out of the radiator, lol, I am a goof, :P
Thanks all. I am going to check that level again and then probably try the siphon method first. If I remove a cooler tube it probably will leak when I re-hook it.
BYW, Today I found a couple Tranny shops with FAQs that said overfilling won't hurt unless foaming causes it to malfunction and that it won't blow out seals. Mine functions fine. Still, seems good to remove most of the excess.
